“Divergent” star Shailene Woodley will be leaving action-packed films behind for a while when she takes on the role of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden’s pole-dancing girlfriend in the new Oliver Stone biopic. Read on for further details.
It looks like tough Tris Prior is going to be ditching the pants and guns soon. Shailene Woodley, the actress who plays her in the “Divergent” series, will be putting on nipple pasties and long blonde wigs to become Edward Snowden’s pole dancer lover in an as-yet-untitled Oliver Stone film on the NSA whistleblower.
The 23-year-old actress will be playing stripper Lindsay Mills opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Snowden. Director Oliver Stone is basing the film on Luke Harding’s book, “The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man.”
The real-life Mills, who dubbed herself a “pole-dancing super hero,” has been dating Edward Snowden since 2009. She is now a resident of Russia, where the former CIA systems administrator is currently in asylum. Their relationship was featured in the recent Snowden documentary, “Citizenfour,” named one of the best movies of 2014.
Mills, who was long thought to have been abandoned by Snowden when he fled the United States, eventually joined him in Russia by way of Hawaii. In her blog, which carried the subtitle: “Adventures of a world-travelling, pole-dancing superhero,” she had written about feeling sick and exhausted over having to carry “the weight of the world.” Mills has since taken the blog down.
For Woodley, who has been cast in many young romantic films and, of late, action movies, playing a stripper will be a whole new genre for her. The actress has wholeheartedly accepted the challenge and has begun intensive training in pole dancing, something the real-life Mills is said to be particularly good at.
