On Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, writer and producer Shonda Rhimes and her production company, Shondaland, will be dominating ABC’s programming line-up for the night. For three straight hours, the network will feature three shows she has produced, two of which she created. No woman has achieved such a feat on television except her. Read on for more about this news story.
Viewers are already familiar with the ups and downs on “Grey’s Anatomy,” which is already on its eleventh season. The show, which remains dependable despite being on television for over a decade, will run at 8:00 p.m. Following this, the night will pick up the pace with the fourth season of “Scandal,” promising viewers more political shockers at 9:00 p.m. By the night’s end at 10:00 p.m., Shondaland will introduce its newest series, a legal drama created by Pete Nowalk called “How to Get Away with Murder.”
With these three shows on a major network, Rhimes has established a reputation that ranks her alongside Aaron Spelling, Steven Bochco, Jerry Bruckheimer and David E. Kelley, who have produced hundreds of TV shows over several decades.
The Detroit News called Rhimes the Queen of Thursday Nights. Her dominance has not gone unnoticed on Twitter where a fan dubbed Thursdays as “Shonday.” It’s no secret that Rhimes and the stars of her shows are quite active on the social media platform. In fact, being on Twitter is partly why Rhimes’ shows have earned such a strong following. Variety even reported that ABC’s marketing pitch has been centered on promoting their Thursday lineup on the platform, with the hashtag #TGIT.
When asked about how she managed to be on top of her game, coming up with shows that viewers become drawn to, the writer and producer couldn’t really explain.
“Mostly, we’re enjoying ourselves. We all love what we’re doing. I guess the answer is, I don’t know,” said Rhimes, as published in the Oakland Press.
“It feels great. It’s an amazing vote of confidence from the network. It’s an exciting moment,” she further said, humbly citing that at the end of the day, her job is to “just make the shows.”
Tune in to “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal” and “How to Get Away with Murder” from Shondaland beginning Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, between 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on ABC.
