We’re only halfway on its freshman run, and Showtime has finally set its claws on making another comeback for “Penny Dreadful.” Want to know more about it? Read on to find more about the renewal of “Penny Dreadful” for Season 2.

“Penny Dreadful” explores a new, dark world that features several notable horrific characters from iconic literatures. Midway to its Season 1 finale, the series already put the spotlight on  Bram Stoker’s “Dracula,”  Oliver Wilde’s “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein,” and “Van Helsing.” However, it seemed that it is not enough.

“Penny Dreadful” first aired on May 11, 2014, and The Hollywood Reporter pointed out its successful performance on the first four episodes. Showtime hailed it as the most watched series among the 18-49 age bracket since “Dexter,” with an average of 4.8 million viewers every week.

“Penny Dreadful” will return in 2015for Season 2. It was also reported that it will have an additional two episodes rather than its usual eight episodes. It will also mark the return of John Logan of the “Bond” film franchise as the overall creator and writer for the 10 new episodes.

The Oscar-nominated writer joins “Revolutionary Road” director Sam Mendes and producer Pippa Harris on board of the production for the first season. They even previously tapped “The Orphanage” director Juan Antonio Bayola to helm the first two episodes.

“Penny Dreadful” stars Josh Hartnett (Ethan Chandler), Timothy Dalton (Sir Malcolm Murray), Eva Green (Vanessa Ives), Billie Piper (Brona Croft) and Harry Treadaway (Victor Frankenstein).

Showtime Networks president David Nevins announced that the streaming service had renewed “Penny Dreadful.” He also noted that it was their way to connect again with the Comic-Con audience after the final bow of the “Dexter” series.

“I think because it’s a genre show, it has done incredibly well in all the new ways you can watch, beyond any show we’d had before,” shared Nevins  in the Deadline article.

Moreover, Variety reported that the production will kick off again this year in Dublin, Ireland for “Penny Dreadful” Season 2. It was also said that series has been talking on expanding to merchandise that includes book tie-ins, tarot cards and action figures.

That’s it for Showtime’s “Penny Dreadful” Renewed for Season 2. Are you happy about the not-so-dreadful news? Who do you think will come back for Season 2?
