Sisterakas is a movie made for profit and nothing else. It is about the fashion world that is supposed to be about taste and class but the movie is a celebration of poor taste. The Philippine movie industry is still fascinated with the stars. Instead of coming up with good stories, the production brought together several big stars and made them be themselves. They forgot about their characters and instead made references to their personal lives, friendships, and product endorsements. Blame should not be given not just to lead stars Vice Ganda and Kris Aquino, but to the director Wenn V. Deramas as well.
The only saving grace of Sisterakas is Ai Ai delas Alas. It is reminiscent to her character in the Tanging Ina Mo series, which she also did with director Deramas. This could only mean that they ran of ideas for the series and ended up making this movie for profit project.
Director Deramas is overhyped. The same can be said of Vice Ganda. Ai Ai delas Alas is a decent comedienne if given the right material. Sisterakas doesn’t have an original story. The cinematography and production design is lacking.
Kris Aquino could not deliver a punch line. Her actions are awkward all throughout the movie. She is often referred to as the President’s sister in the movie. Even her doomed marriage to pro basketball player James Yap has become a running joke in Sisterakas. It is bad taste and director Deramas could have edited it out of the movie. A failed marriage is not something to joke about and it is worse than toilet humor.
Kris Aquino should stop making movies. She should sacrifice her showbiz career for the benefit of all. There are a lot of actors in the Philippine movie industry that need to be given projects than her.
