Sleepy Hollow” Season 2 Episode 2 “The Kindred” aired on Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. on FOX. The episode introduced a new character in the form of Leena Reyes, “Sleepy Hollow’s” stern new sheriff played by Sakina Jaffrey. Read on for the full recap of this episode.

The episode kicked off with Ichabod’s dream — Katrina chained at the center of a ring of flames as part of a ceremony which will sanctify her bond to the Headless Horseman, Abraham, making her like him in every way, which is er, headless.

Awake from his nightmare, Ichabod explained to Abbie that he knows what the horseman intends to Katrina, showing her a chapter in the Codex of Tchacos, one of the lost Gospels of the Bible, that the Horseman took a human bride through a gruesome binding ritual. Abbie told her it won’t match up to Martha Stewart’s standards, and again, Crane was confused how a blessed rite between a man and woman has become a booming industry for business and TV.

They then discussed the possible whereabouts of the rider. Abbie told Crane that he has the best chance of finding the whereabouts of the rider as he knows the man very well. Abby was then summoned by the new sherriff, Leena Reyes, who was revealed to know Abbie when she was a kid. With the decapitations and deaths happening in Sleepy Hollow, Reyes thinks it’s the work of cartels, and she intended to bring sanity back to Sleepy Hollow.

Ichabod met up with Abbie and told her that he might have an idea where Katrina and the rider is — Willow Point, now Dobbs Ferry — the place where Abraham and Katrina were engaged. On their way to their location, Abbie voiced out that they should not lose focus on stopping Moloch. Ichabod told her that he intends to honor both his duty as a husband and as a witness, convincing Abby that Katrina’s powers will be essential to tip the balance of the war.

Arriving in their destination, they saw the altar, proving Ichabod was  correct. They found the Horseman’s red-eyed horse, as well as Katrina through a window. They fall back to the cabin to meet with Jenny, devising a plan to free Katrina.

While looking at Franklin’s journals, the group discovered the existence of the Kindred, a Frankenstein-like creature created by Franklin at Washington’s behest. The creature, made out of body parts of fallen soldiers, has the ability to rival the Horseman of Death, but it was missing a vital ingredient — a piece of the Horseman himself. Luckily, Ichabod and Abbie possessed his severed head.

Ichabod was insistent on raising the kindred, but Abbie, skeptical about the idea, thought that raising the Kindred was not just raising a new weapon, but rather raising another monster. Jenny, on the other hand, thought it’ll just be a means of delivering the rider’s head back if it fails. Persuading the sisters, Abbie went to see Irving to find out where the head is. Jenny went to the archive to pick up a cache of weapons, while Crane decoded the rest of the instructions.

Abraham then tried to persuade Katrina, that Ichabod , the man she loves, was a deception and does not exist, pointing out how Ichabod rescued Abbie, moments after she got into purgatory, while it took Katrina years. Abraham then revealed to her that Moloch has plans for all of them.

Abbie went to see Irving, who was not doing well in prison. He revealed to her the whereabouts of the horseman’s head — a savings deposit box at the bank. Abbie urged Irving to consider an insanity plea so that he can be transferred to Tarrytown Psychiatric, which will make him close by for the group to visit.

Abbie and Ichabod then went to retrieve the Head at the bank, but not before Ichabod gave a tongue lashing with a banker who offers him to open a credit card.

Meanwhile, Jenny who has just retrieved the weapons from the archive, was discovered by the new sheriff, Reyes, who knows about Jenny’s criminal record and escape from the psychiatric hospital. Finding out the weapons, she arrested Jenny, charging her with illegal possession of fire arms.

Abbie and Ichabod headed to the jail and try to sweet talk the new sheriff in releasing Jenny, telling her that Jenny was under Abbie’s instructions. But Jenny told her that she took the guns without Abbie’s consent. Reyes also met Ichabod, prompting that they won’t be needing an Oxford history consultant.

At the prison, Irving took up a lie detector test, admitting that it was a demon that was responsible for the murders, passing the test. But Reyes proved to be a tough cookie, telling Irving she has friends at the
Tarrytown Psychiatric, where there are ways to treat hallucinations such as anti-psychotic drugs, electroshock therapies, promising him that he’d get the latest.

Abbie and Ichabod searched for the tunnels for the location of the Kindred. Ichabod asked Abbie about her experience in Purgatory, telling him how she was almost stuck there forever when she almost drank the water from the imposter Crane. Abbie told him that her faith in him is her greatest weakness and maybe Katrina or Henry is Ichabod’s weakness. They then found the Kindred after getting past Galvani’s trap (Galvani is the creator of the Galvanic cell or known today as Battery).

Meanwhile, Abraham and Henry discussed Moloch’s coming. Katrina tried to persuade Abraham not to kill Ichabod saying that even in the Bible; it doesn’t say that the Horseman kills the witnesses. She then convinced Abraham that she had wanted him to marry her a long time ago, but his impatience forced her into Ichabod’s arms. She told him that if he wants a future with her, he has to give her time and a chance to accept him, to which he disappointingly agrees.

Back in Dobbs, with head intact, Ichabod placed the skull at the top of the Kindred, reciting an incantation which will animate the creature, to which nothing happens. He then repeated the incantation, telling Abbie that there are words that he has not read before. As the Horseman arrived, Ichabod successfully raise the Kindred, battling out with the Horseman.

Ichabod rushed to Katrina, who told him that he must leave without her. She told him of Moloch’s new plans, and that she could be a spy inside, as well as try to save their son Henry. The two passionately kissed before Ichabod followed her advice and left.

Outside, the Kindred was fighting the Horseman of Death who was joined by the Horseman of War, while Ichabod and Abbie made their escape, to which the Kindred followed. Abraham then checked up on Katrina if she has escaped, finding her unbound ropes. To his surprise, he saw Katrina, who approached him, beginning to believe that she might be warming up to him.

Back in the Cabin, Abbie admitted that the Kindred was a good idea, although she’s still ambivalent with losing the head. Ichabod disagrees with the idea of monster, saying, “The way to fight monsters cannot be to create monsters, we must be better than them.” They both go on discussing about the events that has just transpired, although they have not saved Katrina from the clutches of the Rider, they now have a mole inside.

While Abbie visited the locked up Jenny, Reyes paid Irving a visit, wanting answers about the events happening in Sleepy Hollow. Henry showed up as Irving’s attorney with an injunction against all involuntary treatments. He gave Irving a pen which pricked Irving’s fingers, as his blood seals the contract.
