Attention everyone with and online presence! Celebrities are not the only people who are having their confidential pictures hacked, but according to a new report, more than one million user images sent on Snapchat are currently being spread on 4chan. The scandal is dubbed as "The Snappening." Read on to learn more about Movie News Guide's (MNG) report on the rampant hacking scandal in the history.
The Snappening came to spotlight after the "Hunger Games" actress Jennifer Lawrence's nude photos, along with Ariana Grande ("Sam and Kat"), Cara Delevingne, Kate Bosworth ("Superman Returns"), Selena Gomez ("Spring Breakers"), Vanessa Hudgens ("Beastly"), Kate Upton ("The Other Woman"), Kirsten Dunst ("Melancholia") and Kaley Cuoco ("The Big Bang Theory"), as well as many other celebrities, were hacked and circulated on the internet in September.
The New York Times reported that the alleged hacked pictures are coming from "Snapsaved," which is described as, “a Smartphone tool that its creators said would allow users to store photos from their Snapchat accounts that normally disappear after 10 seconds.”
According to recent reports, TheSnappening.org, the website was build to collect those Snapchat photos and videos, has been closed down.Snapsaved stated in a Facebook post that their site was hacked. They also said that they deleted its website as soon as it ascertained the violation. Click here to read the full statement.
In an interview with Mashable, Reddit user Mudit Grover has been revealed as the administrator of the said website. Grover told Mashable about the purpose for revealing those scandalous photos. He said that he wanted to tell people sharing personal content on Cloud could be hazardous because the contents are now publicly available.
The Independent reports that pictures being circulated ranged from daily life pictures to the 100MB of real explicit images and videos. Allegedly, most of Snapchat’s users were not adults; therefore, any type of nudity could be regarded as child pornography.
The noteworthy and intimidating facet to this hack is that the pictures have been indexed. Making the hacker’s task easier, he could just hit in a username and then find all of that person’s communication.
