On Sunday, American golfer Brandt Snedeker took home the first prize for winning the Tour Championship and the grand prize for winning the FedEx Cup. The 31-year old received the winner’s share for the golf tournament, which was $1.4 million. He also took home the winner’s share for the FedEx Cup playoffs, which was $10 million.
It was the fourth victory for Snedeker on the PGA Tour and the second one this year. He won the Farmers Insurance Open in January. Following the event, Snedeker said he was rarely speechless however, he was very close to being speechless after receiving the winner’s $10 million check. He said the win helped him realize that his best golf is some of the best golf in the world.
Snedeker entered Sunday’s final round tied for first place with Justin Rose of England. He carded a final round 68 to win by three shots over Rose. England’s Luke Donald and American Ryan Moore tied for third place.
Rory McIlroy, who entered the event in first place in the FedEx Cup standings could not mount a threat to win the event and finished in second place in the FedEx Cup. McIlroy nevertheless finished his season with four victories and will be the favorite to win golfer of the year. Tiger Woods finished the tournament in eighth place. He finished his PGA Tour season with three victories and will be playing in the upcoming Ryder Cup tournament against the Europeans.
Snedeker joined Woods, Vijay Singh, Jim Furyk and Bill Haas, as FedEx Cup winners since its inception in 2007.
