Comedian Jan Hooks died of natural causes on Thursday. A representative confirmed her death to the media in the evening but gave no further comment. Hooks appeared on “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) from 1986 to 1991. She was best known for her impersonations of Bette Davis, Jodie Foster, Sinead O’Connor and Hillary Clinton.

Hooks worked alongside big names like Mike Myers, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock and Chris Farley during her stint on the show. She was also the voice actor for Manjula Nahasapeemapetilon, a minor character in the animated comedy “The Simpsons.”

She was one of the notably few female comedians in a male-dominated industry. She went on to join the sixth season of television sitcom “Designing Women,” which aired from 1986 to 1993. The plot revolved around two women who run an interior design firm. However, Hooks continued to make occasional appearances on “SNL.” She also starred in ‘90s films like “Coneheads” and “Batman Returns.”

News of Hooks’ death led to an outpouring of grief and condolences on Twitter. Melissa Locker paid tribute to the comedian’s death on TIME by compiling her five best “SNL” sketches. The list includes her impersonations of Nancy Reagan and Kathy Lee Gifford. Fellow “SNL” cast member Kevin Nealon, who dated Hooks from 1984 to 1987, sent a statement via LA Times.

“Jan Hooks was an enormous part of my life. We shared some amazing times; our years as friends, then dating and then the incredible rush of being on ‘Saturday Night Live’ together,” said Nealon in a statement via LA Times.

Hooks was born in Georgia and briefly attended classes at the University of West Florida. She attempted to join the “SNL” cast in 1985, but lost the slot to Joan Cusack.

Her passing is one of several celebrity deaths in 2014, including fellow comedians Robbie Williams and Joan Rivers. It is not yet known when and where Hooks’ remains will be interred.

May Jan Hooks’ soul rest in peace. Our prayers go to her friends and family in this difficult time. There you have it for celebrity news. Follow Movie News Guide (MNG) for more Hollywood updates.
