Sophie Turner, who will debut in Bryan Singer’s “X-Men: Apocalypse” as the telepathic Jean Grey, talks to IGN about her upcoming role on the latest “X-Men” installment. Read on for further details.
Sophie Turner has recently landed a role to play the young Jean Grey in the latest installment of 20th Century Fox’s “X-Men” franchise, “X-Men: Apocalypse.” Turner, who is set to return as Sansa Stark in the HBO series “Game of Thrones,” which is nearing its fifth season premiere, sits down and talks to IGN about her upcoming “X-Men” role.
“I think maybe one of the reasons that they chose me for [Jean] is because they saw the dark side of Sansa, maybe they’re thinking, ‘Oh, Phoenix, Jean Grey.’ I definitely see a lot of parallels in there… struggles with her power… and not being accepted in the human world,” Turner explained to IGN on how she thinks she got the role.
Joining Turner are franchise newcomers, Tye Sheridan and Alexandra Shipp, who have been cast to play the young Scott Summers/Cyclops and Ororo Munroe/Storm respectively. They will be joining “X-Men: First Class” cast James McAvoy as Charles Xavier; Michael Fassbender as Magneto; Nicholas Hoult as the Beast; Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique; and Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert. Evan Peters, who played the Quicksilver on “Days of Future Past,” is also reported to be returning for the upcoming pic.
Oscar Isaac is set to play the films titular villain, Apocalypse, one of the very first mutants born in the age of ancient pharaohs of Egypt.
Turner will return on “Game of Thrones” Season 5, which premieres on April 12, 2015. She will debut as Jean Grey on “X-Men: Apocalypse” on May 27, 2016.
