Comedy lovers rejoice! Writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein of “Horrible Bosses” and “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” fame have been brought on board by Marvel Studios for the rebooted “Spider-Man” franchise. Read on to find out more.
Many fans are already looking forward to the new “Spider-Man” following Sony’s decision to end “The Amazing Spider-Man” franchise featuring Andrew Garfield. Now, the upcoming reboot of the popular Marvel superhero has landed its own team of screenwriters.
The screen-writing team of Daley and Goldstein have several comedy plaudits under their belt, including the National Lampoon sequel “Vacation.” In an interview with NPR on Friday, the duo said that they would be bringing their trademark style of comedy into the webslinger’s universe.
“He’s a sharp kid and witty and kind of deals with the fact that he’s an outcast and a geek through humor. It is sort of the safety net for geeks like us, so I think we can totally relate to where he’s coming from. As well as the superpowers, which we also have,” Daley commented on Peter Parker’s personality.
Marvel Studios has already seen some success in the comedy-action genre with the uproariously funny “Guardians Of The Galaxy” in 2014, and the glib “Ant Man” this year. It is likely that the Spiderman reboot will be shot in the same vein, and writers are determined to explore the character-rich comedic mythology already existent in comics. It is also rumored that the film will be set in a high school and will have a “John Hughes feel” to it.
Tom Holland has already been confirmed for the movie as Peter Parker, and Marissa Tonmei will appear as Aunt May. Daley is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Dr. Sweets in the hit television series, “Bones.”
The all-new “Spider-Man” movie is currently slated to release on July 28, 2017 and production is scheduled to start next year.
