Paul Feig directorial “Spy” starring Melissa McCarthy, Jason Statham, Jude Law and Rose Byrne has proven to be a better performer at the box office than the “star studded” movie “Entourage” that has literally a bazillion celebrities featuring in it. The espionage comedy movie has been successful in wooing audiences to the theatres with its spoof like comedy and impeccable casting.
According to Yahoo! Movies, the movie has impressed the crowd in North America and has been successful in over powering “Entourage” movie which has not been able to stand up to the reputation its predecessor (TV series) did. Over the weekend the movie earned $10.4 million bringing the total to $17.8 million. It is being reported that producers of the movie had expected the movie to touch at least $20 million because of the humongous fan following the TV series had and how big the silver screen adaptation of the movie was.
On the other hand Melissa McCarthy starrer “Spy” has raked in $30 million but still expectations from the movie were to at least touch $35 million. Leaving aside the collections, the movie has proved to be yet another hit for director Paul Feig who was helming this movie for 20th Century Fox. Chris Aronson, Chief of Fox’s domestic distribution said that the movie has scored well with the adults too and that there’s nothing better than a dose of laughter. Acknowledging the wonderful reviews the movie got, he is sure that the movie will continue to perform really well in the coming weeks as well because there’s no comedy movie releasing any time soon.
One thing is for sure when you have an action hero like Jason Statham who is known to kicking some serious butt mouthing foul words which actually sound funny, you are bound to laugh whether you want to or not.
