“Star Trek 3” will not be released until next year, but fans are already wondering what the third installment to the “Star Trek” franchise will be. Co-writer Simon Pegg dished out that the movie will pay tribute to the late Leonard Nimoy. Read on to learn more about this scoop.
“Mission: Impossible” and “Star Trek” screenwriter Simon Pegg recently teased what lies ahead for fans of the sci-fi adventure film, “Star Trek 3.” Speaking to ComicBook.com, Pegg brushed up on some of the details about the movie. According to him, the film franchise will be celebrating its 50th anniversary and he hopes that Nimoy will be honored during the movie.
“It would be crazy not to pay a tribute to Leonard in some way. His part in ‘Star Trek’ and his effect on the world through ‘Star Trek’ has been enormous,” he said.
According to TrekMovie.com via IGN, “Star Trek 3” is rumored to be titled, “Star Trek Beyond.” According to the outlet, the title has been registered with the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). The outlet noted, though that this title registration may just be a move from Paramount to distract its fans from the real title. The studio has not yet confirmed or denied if the said title was true.
Pegg also revealed that in the next “Star Trek” movie, he hopes to see it in the same essence as its original TV series.
“It’s a story about frontierism and adventure and optimism and fun, and that’s where we want to take it, you know. Where no man has gone before – where no one has gone before, sensibly corrected for a slighter more enlightened generation,” he revealed to Spinoff Online.
Meanwhile, Idris Elba has been rumored to play a role in the upcoming “Star Trek 3.” According to the same outlet, Pegg mentioned about Elba and seemed to have dropped hints that the 42-year-old “Thor: Dark World” star will be joining the sci-fi movie. Pegg, however, immediately shot down speculations that Elba will be joining the cast, which includes Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, and John Cho.
“Star Trek 3” premieres in theatres on July 8, 2016. Stay tuned on Movie News Guide (MNG) for more updates.
