Fans weren’t expecting much fanfare from the panel for Star Wars at the San Diego Comic Con, but, boy, were they in for a surprise! Director J. J. Abrams had announced previously that he would not be bringing any new footage to the San Diego Comic Con 2015, and the fans were expecting that the panel may not bring in any interesting surprises. But they were pleasantly surprised when the cast and the key players showed up to answer their questions and they were treated to a concert playing the Star Wars score.

Fans were also delighted to receive confirmation that the ‘Star Wars: Force Awakens’ trailer #3 will be released sometime in this fall. Fans were also pleasantly surprised when the Lucasfilm Hall H panel showed a behind-the-scenes reel that confirmed that the longtime Abrams collaborator Simon Pegg is part of the film’s cast.

J. Abrams is pretty good at directing science fiction as it turns out. His directorial work includes Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), Mission: Impossible III (2006) and Super 8 (2011).

Abrams, producer Kathleen Kennedy and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan joined the film’s actors, returning stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford as well as new additions to the cast Daisey Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson and Gwendoline Christie onstage. The main presentation was moderated by Chris Hardwicke. Fans were delighted when the panel revealed the identities of main villains in the new film.

ScreenRant reported that immediately following the discussion at the panel, the crowd of more than six thousand fans was invited to attend a surprise concert at the Embarcadero Marina Park South where the San Diego Symphony performed pieces from the iconic Star Wars soundtrack written by John Williams. Many fans said it made up for the lack of spoilers in the discussion.
