Donnie Yen, the famous martial arts star from Hong Kong, was reported to star in Episode VIII of the “Star Wars” series. Read on.
The internet is abuzz with anticipation for the new sequel trilogy in the “Star Wars franchise. “The first film in the trilogy, “Episode VII: The Force Awakens,” will hit the theaters this December and will have a new set of primary characters.
While the sequels will obviously rely on their box office draws for their future as a trilogy, fans will obviously flock to the theaters to show that they back the producers as far as bringing Star Wars back to the theaters is concerned.
According to Cinema Blend, Yen is to star in the middle act of the tri-part series. He may show up to add some high powered kung fu type light sabre fun to the next movie.
It was previously reported by the Hong Kong-based tabloid Apple Daily, that Yen has landed a role in the Rian Johnson-directed “Star Wars: Episode VIII.”
It is well known that Yen, who is one of the biggest stars in the country’s film industry, is a master at Kung Fu stunt work. Now, fans would obviously look forward to his light sabre action in the film. He would most probably join the cast as a Jedi.
If Apple Daily is to be believed, Yen was chosen after the producers had considered many other notable stars from the Chinese Film Industry.
Some of the stars considered for the role were Jet Li, Stephen Chow, Tony Leung, Chang Chen, Daniel Wu, and Wang Leehom. This pickiness on the part of the producers further solidifies our assumption that this will be a major role in the film and not a ten second appearance at the Jedi council.
