“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has a new independent story as reported before. Many have already speculated that new characters will be added to the plot or another same character will have a transformation such as Princess Leia especially when she’s not sporting the same hairdo in the promotional posters. The director of the latest film in the franchise has recently confirmed this.
In a conference held in Sirius XM Town Hall last Monday according to Entertainment Weekly, JJ Abrams emphasized that Leia, who was previously a princess and is now a general, has simply just grown up from her young character.
“I think it’s sort of like any of us, you like to think you evolve and go through life experiences and become something else. But the truth is we’re all kind of who we are. My guess is most of us would say, ‘I’m kind of the kid I was, still.’ But I also think both are true. It’s a little bit, almost a nature-nurture thing. You are who you are naturally, but as you go through life, you harden in some ways, you hopefully become more enlightened in others. Her evolution from princess to general is part of her life experience, but she’s always going to be Leia.” Abrams explained.
Fans will have to get used first to seeing and calling her now as General Leia. As for the actress portraying the character, Carrie Fisher admitted the fun and challenging side of coming back in the Hollywood, particularly for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
In an interview with Times as cited by Inverse, Fisher explained, “They were fun to make…like playing on a jungle gym. They’re not fun like that because there’s early calls and, as you get older, there are memory issues and pressure with that.”
How will fans react to the new Princess, er, General Leia in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”?
