Dinosaurs can be a huge source of entertainment and provide enough thrills and chills but it seems like it is nothing compared to ‘the galaxy far far away.’ That’s right. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is the new hot cake in movies as it crossed the record of “Jurassic World.”
“Jurassic World” hit the theatres last June and swept us of our feet with the mind blowing special effects and we all possess certain nostalgia about dinosaur movies, which started their journey with Steven Spielberg in 1993, with “Jurassic Park.” It made its debut with $208.8 million domestically and $524 million worldwide. But “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” smashed the record very easily.
According to Hollywood Reporter, the gross earning of the movie in the previous Sunday ended up $248 million domestically, within US and Canada. That, however, connects the dots of its global earning on the first weekend of its release, which is a whooping $529 million.
The previous best Sunday earning belonged to “Jurassic World,” but “The Force Awakens” successfully claimed that part with a $60.5 million. It came in number three within the highest grossing films of all times, and that list also features Jurassic World, the final Harry Potter flick.
The massive success of the movie created a huge euphoria in the Disney studios. Walt Disney Studio Chairman Alan Horn said, “Our sole focus has been creating a film that delivers that one-of-a-kind Star Wars experience and director J. J. Abrams, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and the Lucasfilm team have outdone themselves.” And to be fair, the movie is absolutely thrilling, and it’s perfect for those who waited almost 30 years after “Star Wars: Episode 6 – The Return of the Jedi,” for this movie.
A few other highest grossing movies this season is, “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Trip,” “Sisters,” “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2,” “Creed,” “The Good Dinosaur” etc. You can catch “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” at the theatre near you!
