Fans of Finn and Poe Dameron will be delighted to hear that there might be more scenes between the former Stormtrooper and the best pilot of the Resistance in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. During the panel to celebrate forty years of the franchise, John Boyega talked about the bond between the two characters and how it will progress in the next movie.
To recall, Finn met Poe when the Stormtrooper rescued the rebel when he was taken in for questioning. Unfortunately, their partnership came to a halt when, while fending off the attacks of the First Order, they crashed landed on Jakku and got separated.
When they finally reunited in the rebel base, there was not much interaction because they were about to launch an attack on the Starkiller Base. When they came back, Finn was badly injured following his confrontation with Kylo Ren.
Fortunately, it is not the end of the friendship between Poe and Finn. According to Boyega, Finn is going to have more adventures with Poe.
“Absolutely [their friendship continues to blossom],” the actor told fans (via Screen Rant). “Poe’s my boy. There’s always a new adventure for them to go on.”
In the trailer, Finn was seen inside what looks like a medical pod.
However, Boyega’s statement confirms that Finn will not be inside the pod for the entirety of the movie. Moreover, it gives fans hope that they will share more screen time in the upcoming film.
With Rey off to Ahch-To to train with Luke Skywalker, Finn’s obvious path is to fight alongside Poe. Perhaps, the two will once again work together against the First Order like they did in The Force Awakens.
That said, it will be interesting to see where the story of the ex-Stormtrooper will head to in The Last Jedi and the still-untitled Episode IX.
Luke Skywalker’s Role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi
In the same event, Mark Hamill talked about his role in the follow-up to 2015’s box office hit. The actor revealed that Luke will play a significant role in the next movie.
J.J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens was all about introducing the next generation of heroes and, in The Last Jedi, Luke will take the role of the teacher and divulge everything he knows about the Force to Rey.
But even if the movie is no longer all about Luke, Hamill said there are still plenty to know about the characters, especially about Ben’s turn to the dark side and his self-imposed exile.
“To a certain extent, it’s not Luke’s story anymore,” the actor stated. “But I think he’s an important part of the overall arc of the Saga, and again there’s a lot of mystery about him even within the film.”
It reassures fans of the original trilogy that, despite the new players, the old team is going to play sizable parts in the new trilogy. Even Carrie Fisher’s General Leia Organa will reportedly play an important role.
However, Luke’s role in the new trilogy beyond teaching Rey how to wield a lightsaber and use the Force remains to be seen. The character warned that it is time for the Jedi to end, so will he seek the end of the Jedi or will he join his sister and the Resistance?
Star Wars: The Last Jedi also stars Adam Driver, Billie Lourd, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson and Laura Dern. The movie is written and directed by Rian Johnson. It will land on the big screen on Dec. 15.
