The entire “Star Wars” fan community was shocked to the core when it was announced that the games, books, and comic books produced after the release of “Star Wars: Episode VI- The Return of the Jedi,” which expanded the Star Wars Universe as a whole, were no longer part of the official canon, as a new canon- complete with comic books, films and book tie-ins, will replace it.However, as the now non-canon expanded universe is still in many fans’ hearts, it may just be possible that some references to it may end up in the new canon, which might have just happened with Mads Mikkelsen’s character for “Star Wars: Rogue One.” WARNING: This article may contain spoilers for “Star Wars: Rogue One.” Read on to learn more about who Mads Mikkelsen might portray.
Recent reports have surfaced that MARVEL’s “Doctor Strange’s” Mads Mikkelsen, in signing a poster for a fan, has revealed who he might be portraying in “Star Wars: Rogue One.”
According to RebelForce Radio, who posted a picture of his signed poster on his Facebook account, the actor signed the name “Galen” underneath his signature. It was just like “Star Wars: Episode II-Attack of the Clones” actor Zachariah Jensen, who signed it with his character’s name underneath his own signature.
Because of this, there has been rampant speculation that Mikkelsen’s character just might be Galen Marek, a character in “The Force Unleashed” game who, according to Screen Rant, was the secret apprentice of Darth Vader with ties to a Jedi past.
Darth Vader hid his apprentice well, as according to the rules of the Sith, there can only be one master, and one apprentice at a time.
In the game, on his master’s orders, he becomes an undercover secret agent in the “Rebel Alliance,” but later on ends up turning on his master.
This, in a way, seems in sync with what Mikkelsen says about his role, as an interview with the actor, according to StarWars7News, shows that he will be portraying a very important non-villain role. But, he did not elaborate more on his character’s actual alliances and motivations.
Screen Rant also reports that Darth Vader might make an appearance in the movie, and if that is confirmed, it looks like Mikkelsen’s character might really be Galen or a character based on him.
However, it is also possible that using the name is a nod to the old expanded universe, and may not be connected to the Galen Marek of “The Force Unleashed.”
