Rey, Finn and Poe are going to face new challenges in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. In a new interview, Oscar Isaac revealed that fans will get to know the three new heroes of the galaxy far, far away once they go under trials by fire.
Test of Worthiness
In J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the three new heroes of the sci-fi franchise worked together to survive the threat of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and the First Order. However, in the next movie, they all have to face the challenges coming their way separately.
Without giving away too much detail, here is what the 38-year-old said about the upcoming movie:
“The heroes get challenged very specifically,” Isaac told NME. The actor is currently doing press rounds for his new movie The Promise. “It’s almost like you get to discover their character flaws and those things get tested. Out of that, I think you’ll get a much better sense of who Poe, Finn and Rey are because you get to really know somebody in a crisis.”
Disney is yet to announce the plot for Episode VIII. The first trailer released last month also did not offer much about what kind of challenges Poe and the rest of the cast have to endure.
The character of Isaac was briefly seen running in the corridors with his loyal droid BB-8 as chaos explode around them. From the looks of it, the rebel base is under attack.
Meanwhile, Finn still has not fully recovered from his confrontation with Kylo Ren in the first movie. The trailer saw him lying unconscious inside what looks like a medical pod.
Rey, of course, is training to be a Jedi in Ahch-To with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).
One thing is for sure, however: Poe Dameron, the greatest pilot of the Resistance, is going to survive Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Isaac added that he still has a contract with Lucasfilm until the last installment in 2020.
Poe and Finn Go On Adventures
But Finn would not be stuck in the pod for too long. Boyega once mentioned that he will have an adventure with his main man, Poe.
However, fans who hope to see a romance between Finn and Poe (tagged as #Foe) might have to wait a little longer. Yahoo! Asked Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy about the pairing and, while she admitted that the studio is seriously thinking about it, the two will remain friends at least in Episode VIII. “I don’t think you’ll see that in this one,” she commented.
While their scenes together were short, sparks flew between the former Stormtrooper and the Resistance pilot. The two work together to escape the First Order, but separated once they arrive in Jakku. When they eventually reunited, the Resistance were on the move to attack the Starkiller Base. Poe left his jacket to his new ally as a keepsake which, unintentionally, launched a thousand ships.
But will Finn and Poe eventually become the power couple of the Star Wars franchise in the still-untitled Episode IX? The fact that Lucasfilm is talking about it means that they are listening to what fans wanted.
The 2015 movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens broke box office records worldwide by recording a $2.066 billion gross. It introduced the three new heroes of the franchise as well as tie the story arcs of the original cast.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi also stars Carrie Fisher, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Billie Lourd, Lupita Nyong’o, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, Kelly Marie Tran and Laura Dern. The movie was directed by Rian Johnson. It is set to land on the big screen on Dec. 15.
