‘Star Wars VIII: Force Awakens’: Benicio Del Toro Is The Villain; Meet The Female Lead

Looks like Disney cannot get enough of Benicio Del Toro. The Puerto Rican  actor who starred in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” has recently confirmed that he is the bad-guy in “Star Wars VIII.” Read on to find out more.

Though there is no official confirmation yet from Lucasfilms or Disney, Del Toro seemed fairly confident in himself when he announced to a Spanish news outlet, that he would be playing the villain in the eighth installment of “Star Wars.”

When asked about his schedule, Del Toro clammed up soon however, but not before stating that he is “like the villain” in it.

Star Wars is coming up, we will see how that turns out. I think we start shooting in March.”  Del Toro said.

This places Del Toro in two massive properties acquired by Disney, as he plays ‘the collector’ in  MCU’s “Guardians of The Galaxy.” His previous accolades include the Academy Award for his role as Javier Rodriguez in “Traffic,” and playing the incredibly coked-out ‘Dr. Gonzo’ in “Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas.” With his famous mumble, we expect Del Toro to join “Darth Vader” in “Star Wars” tradition of having villains with some kind of speech-impediment.

“Star Wars VIII: The Force Awakens” is being written and directed by Rian Johnson, and this is about the only bit of confirmed news we have on the movie so far. According to the Wrap, the contenders for lead actress have been narrowed down to three, all excellent choices with: “Orphan Black”‘s Tatiana Maslany, “Jane the Virgin'”s Gina Rodriguez and “Bates Motel”‘s Olivia Cooke.

“Star Wars VII” will hit theaters May 26, 2017.
