Finally! ABC already confirmed “Fresh Off the Boat” (FOTB) Season 2. However, the show’s cast and fans were worried about the network’s silence for more than two weeks regarding the second installment. That was why they bombarded Twitter with their special campaign. Read on for details.
Fans were anxious because the first season only had 13 episodes. There were also no urgent updates were given if “FOTB” would be renewed. Some of them even threatened ABC in case of cancellation. The did this by giving the obviously remarkable stats of the Asian-American family-themed series. After all, the usually harsh review site Rotten Tomatoes gave the show a whopping 90 percent rating and an average of 1.5 to 2.0 viewership rating from review sources.
To assure the second season, “FOTB” cuties Forrest Wheeler and Ian Chen, playing Emery and Evan Huang respectively, and a great number of fans tweeted several posts with the hashtag “#RenewFOTB.”

Throughout Season 1, “FOTB” received an overwhelming number of positive reviews from critics. Rotten Tomatoes’ top critic Emily Nussbaum from New Yorker stated that the show “opens a door” without dismantling “the master’s house.” Another top critic Vicki Hyman from Newark Star-Ledger claimed that the series’ “immigrant/culture clash storylines” are “fresh.”
Sadly, the show’s creator and the narrator himself, Eddie Huang, is known to continuously rant about ABC’s highly-acclaimed sitcom. It was roughly based on his life as a Chinese immigrant. According to NBC News‘ take on Bill Maher’s interview, Huang expressed that he does not care about the show’s success because it neither makes him “happy or unhappy.”
There are no updates yet regarding the premiere date of “FOTB” Season 2.
