Another original series is heading your way courtesy of the network that brought you “Black Sails,” “Da Vinci’s Demons” and the upcoming “Outlander” TV shows! “Power” is an upcoming drama series produced by famed rapper 50 Cent. It premieres on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 9:00 p.m. on Starz. Read on to find out more about Starz’ “Power.”
From recording labels and airwaves to film cameos and business ventures, is there anything that 50 Cent can’t do? Well, apparently not, because he has dipped himself into the television industry.
The “rapperneur” will now try his luck with his TV debut of producing the drama series “Power” with the show’s creator and showrunner Courtney Kemp Agboh (“The Good Wife”). He is joined by Agboh and the executive producers Mark Canton (“300”) and Randall Emmett (“End of Watch”).
According to Zap2it, Starz CEO Chris Albrecht confirmed that the network gave an eight-episode order for the new original series. Starz CEO Chris Albrech expressed his praise for Jackson and Agboh with their work.
“Curtis has a unique and specific vision for the series, lending it an authenticity and voice rarely seen. Courtney has created a rich world and characters not often explored in contemporary drama. Albrecht said in a statement posted on the Zap2it article.
According to the official synopsis posted on the Starz Web site, “Power” is a “visionary” drama series that features the “best and worst” of both the glamorous night life and the apparent drug trade in the Big Apple.
“Power” centres on James “Ghost” St. Patrick, played by Omar Hardwick (“Miracle of St. Anna,” “Kick-Ass”). Ghost and his wife, Tasha (Naturi Naughton) has been living the life he had always dreamed of: a perfect family, a booming business and a beautiful house.
Unfortunately, he is also struggling to balance his “almost” perfect life with another dark secret. His work as an elite Truth nightclub owner has brought him into the dirty business of drug trade with the wealthiest and powerful figures. The empire that he and his family had dreamed of building will now be on the verge of crumbling.
On the other side of justice, Angela Valdes (Lena Loren), James’ childhood friend, had escaped the harsh world of their neighborhood to attain her ambition with hard work and her wits. She was on the top of her game when she was given a case that may change her life forever as she meets her past love again.
Other cast members include Joseph Sikora (Tommy Egan), 50 cent (Kanan), Lucy Waters (Holly), Adam Huss (Josh Kantos), Andy Bean (Greg Knox), Katherine Narducci (Frankie Lavaro), Luis Antonio Navarro (Carlos “Vibora” Ruiz) and Greg Serano (Agent Juan Julio Medina).
In a separate Deadline article, it was reported that 50 Cent will also oversee the music side of the series. He produced the music and video for the show’s main music theme, “Big Rich Town.” He shared how the music is one of the most important components of “Power.”
“I wanted to let the music speak to the viewers as they are watching the show and being able to create the theme song, ‘Big Rich Town’, was crucial as it sets the tone of the show,” Jackson shared in the Deadline article.
