“Lip Sync Battle” is one of the most-awaited shows on TV, following its hit episodes on Jimmy Fallon’s late-night show. British comedian Stephen Merchant, one of the show’s producers, dances to Christina Aguilera’s hit single, “Dirrty.” Read on to learn more about this scoop.
Spike TV is already excited to give viewers a glimpse of its upcoming show, “Lip Sync Battle.” On March 6, the network released a clip of Merchant strutting to Christina Aguilera’s hit single, “Dirrty.”
In the short clip, Merchant can be seen dancing inside a cage, similar to Christina Aguilera’s video. The British comedian is sporting ripped leather jeans with the word, “Nasty” written at the back. Merchant shows off his twerking skills, but Malin Akerman, apparently tells him that she was not impressed.
According to Billboard, “Lip Sync Battle” is based on Jimmy Fallon’s regular late-night bit, wherein celebrities go lip-sync to their songs of choice in order to win. It was announced by Casey Patterson, executive producer and vice-president for Talent Development and Production.
Merchant will produce the series alongside other performers Fallon and John Krasinski.
The outlet reported that the network has already “filmed ten episodes in New York in January.” The episodes featured lip sync battles between Dwayne Johnson, Meghan Trainor, Common, Jennifer Lopez, John Legend, and Anna Kendrick.
Zap2it also reported that because of the fans’ growing anticipation for the series, Spike TV has already ordered eight additional episodes of “Lip Sync Battle.”
The eight additional episodes will feature Emily Blunt, Terrence Howard, Anne Hathaway, Justin Bieber, Queen Latifah, Taraji P. Henson, Will Arnett, Mike Tyson, Terry Crews, and Alison Brie.
“10 wasn’t enough! We’re riding the wave of Lip Sync Mania and the performances are getting bigger and more epic with every show,” Patterson announced as posted by Billboard.com.
LL Cool J will be hosting alongside Chrissy Teigen. He will also be producing the show alongside Eight Million Plus Productions, Stephen Merchant, Casey Patterson, John Krasinski, Jay Peterson, and Rick Schwartz. Beth McCarthy-Miller will be directing the show.
According to the outlet, the additional episodes will be filmed in Los Angeles in March.
“Lip Sync Battle” premieres on Thursday, April 2 at 10:00 pm ET/PT on Spike TV.
