Steve Harvey, the host at the Miss Universe pageant on December 20, was reportedly drinking and gambling hours before the show. Perhaps this could be the reason why he mistakenly announced the wrong winner.
According to TMZ, the 58-year-old Steve Harvey was spotted gambling at the roulette table on December 18. Indeed, he was seen partying at the casino just hours before he took to the stage for hosting the 2015 Miss Universe pageant on December 20. However, reports said that he only had a few drinks and did not gamble too crazy on the day on the show.
It seemed that Harvey hosted the beauty competition quite well throughout the majority of the 3-hour show. However, things went awkward at the end, reported HollywoodLife.com. He mistakenly announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner of the beauty contest, and Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach as the runner-up.
Actually, the result was other way around. Things were really very bad and awkward when the Miss Universe crown and the runner-up crown were removed and interchanged between Gutierrez and Wurtzbach on live television.
The “Family Feud” game show host actually feels bad about the awkward thing that happened on the day. He feels bad not only for himself but also for the Miss Philippines and the Miss Colombia, reported the source. He did not mean anything intentionally, and feels sorry for putting them “through that wave of emotions.”
On December 21, Harvey expressed his sorry on his Facebook account. Miss Colombia took everything graciously, and proved to be strong on the stage even though she could not stop crying backstage.
Does the long weekend of partying might have distracted Steve Harvey’s concentration during the Miss Universe pageant? Perhaps this could be a part of the reason for his major flub during the beauty pageant finale. Sound off your thoughts in the comments section.
