“Stitchers” Season 1 Episode 5 “Finally” aired on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at 9:00 p.m. on ABC Family. In this episode, during an investigation into a researcher’s death led Kirsten Clark (Emma Ishta) to remember a little bit about her own past. Kirsten’s friendship with Camille Engelson (Allison Scagliotti) progressed, and she discovered a little more about the Stitchers program, and a little bit more about Ed Clark (Hugo Armstrong), after asking Linus Ahluwalia (Ritesh Rajan) to decipher a hidden message in the tape Ed had left her. Read on to learn more about this story.
While Cameron Goodkin (Kyle Harris) and Kirsten Clark (Emma Ishta) paid their respects to Marta Rodriguez (Tiffany Hines) at her grave, Kirsten remembered how she had simply walked away from her mother’s niche. It was when she had visited it as a child with Ed Clark (Hugo Armstrong). She then told Cameron that she wished that Marta was still alive so that she could explain how the Stitchers program was a test run for something else, and why she had said that they were all in danger.
Later, at home, Kirsten rejected Camille Engelson’s (Allison Scagliotti) proposal to talk about her feelings or to listen to hers. Regardless of that, Camille joined her in bed, and listened as well to Kirsten’s tape. He alerted her to a strange sequence of sounds that repeated as if it was a coded message. Later, before stitching into Danielle “Dani” Fox (Kimberley Dooley), a brain injury researcher who had seemingly died of a car crash, Kirsten asked Linus Ahluwalia (Ritesh Rajan) to look into it.
Inside the stitch, she saw Dani writing a check to a woman. She saw her talking with a colleague about her concerns regarding their data. She was then later reassured by Dr. Sebastian Zuber (Simon Quarterman) that they were on the verge of a breakthrough, and then saw that somebody had taken control over Dani’s car. Camille later confirmed that Dani’s car had been hacked.
At Cameron’s loft, the pair learned that both Zuber and Danni were being well funded by a grant. However, after looking over some of the research data, Cameron realized that the report was too perfect, almost as if the data and the results were doctored so that they would get more funds to continue on with their research. While Kirsten cleaned off the stain on her shirt, Janice (Mia Serafino), from the neighboring building, came and slapped Cameron for lying to her about being the one who had been buying her groceries over the past few months.
After learning nothing from their visit to Nicole’s place, the pair headed over to the institute where Dani and Zuber worked. In the process, Kirsten volunteered herself to undergo Zuber’s treatment in order to discover whether the treatment worked or not. She was then allowed to go by Maggie Baptiste (Salli Richardson-Whitfield) under the condition that she wears a wire. There, she made up a sob story to convince Zuber that it worked. However, this confirmed her suspicions- that Zuber had been faking the data.
After not being allowed to return to investigate again, and after confronting Maggie about what Marta had said, Kirsten swiped Dani’s ID in order to break into the building, with Cameron and the others as her back up.
However, she was discovered by Dani’s co-worker, George (Brandon Scott), who was working with Zuber. It turned out that Zuber had been faking the data in order to ensure that they would have funding so that he could figure a way to cure his wife, who had lost her memories due to an accident. They then strapped Kirsten in the contraption. They had realized that her brain waves were different from everyone else’s. There, she saw herself as a child, with an electrode harness on her head, and saw that she was lying in the water. She was then freed by the others, who came in. Linus then overpowered Zuber with a kick, which led to his arrest.
Afterwards, Cameron and Kirsten revealed to Nicole Fox (Errin Veronica Westbrook) that Dani had been secretive as she had meant to surprise her with a store of her own and a business plan for her bakery.
Back at home, after thanking Cameron, Kirsten encountered Leslie Turner (Oded Fehr)t. He turned out to be a friend of Ed’s and of her family. He then confirmed Marta’s suspicions, and told her that Ed had been killed trying to protect her, and reassured her that everyone was just trying to protect her. Disturbed, she decided to sleep beside Camille that night.
The next morning, Linus told Kirsten that the patterned sounds in her tape were a set of coordinates that led her to her mother’s niche. She then remembered that Ed had urged her to touch her mother’s picture. After doing so, she discovered a key in an envelope hidden behind the picture.
