The appearance of Kara Zor-El or “Supergirl”, who will be portrayed by “Glee” alumni Melissa Benoist, on CBS, caused quite a stir. It was especially in an age where the MARVEL Cinematic Universe is continually expanding, both on the big screen, and on the small screen, with various films and spin-off television shows.
So far, its rival, DC, is only beginning its own Cinematic Universe, which is now predated by the likes of its two landmark television shows on CW- “Arrow” and “The Flash.” Also, the DC Television Universe has expanded its reach into the “Batman” franchise with FOX’s “Gotham.”
Lately, “Arrow” and “The Flash” have been having several crossover episodes with each other, which, of course, naturally led to a third show- “Legends of Tomorrow.” It feature characters from the DC Universe, and from “Arrow” and “The Flash.”
Because of this, comic book fans have speculated whether or not Kara Zor-El would make an appearance in either “The Flash” or the “Arrow” anytime soon.
In the recently concluded Television Critics Association press tour, CBS chairman Nina Tassler, informed fans of the budding DC television and cinematic universe that the three shows will indeed be crossing over in some way or another.
According to a report on Entertainment Weekly, Tassler has announced that these crossovers will only be seen in the promotional material for the three shows, and that Kara will not be teaming up with Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) or the Flash (Grant Gustin) anytime soon in their respective television shows, or in her’s.
Tassler, in her interview with TV Line during the same event, mentioned that one has to “respect” the limitations of the universe that they were given to work with. However, even if Comic Book.com earlier reported that she was doubtful of this happening, TV Line mentioned that she was still keeping options open, depending on where Kara’s story will take them.
