“Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon” Synopsis:

The film was Mike Myers’ directorial debut, and it focused on Shep Gordon, a consummate Hollywood insider. Gordon handled the career of Alice Cooper. He also had a managing stint with Luther Vandross, Blondie and Raquel Welch. Gordon once shared custody of a cat with Cary Grant, got punched by Janis Joplin and made a yak teak for Dalai Lama. It was Jimi Hendrix who suggested that he take the path of being a manager.

Moreover, it was Gordon made celebrities out of the kitchen, chefs, thus coming up with “celebrity chefs.”

Gordon’s story was told by friends dear to him such as Stallone, Douglas, Cooper, Nelson, Lagasse and Murray.

“Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon” Review:

As of this writing, the top critics in Rotten Tomatoes gave this documentary an 88%, while 83% of the moviegoers would like to watch it.

Sara Stewart of New York Post pointed out that although the film was funny, it failed to touch the part where Gordon only befriended the famous ones.

“As much fun as it is, this all-star tribute is awfully one-note, never questioning Gordon’s seemingly casual habit of befriending only the ultra-famous,” said Stewart in the New York Post review.

USA Today’s Claudia Puig wrote in her review that the audience may not find Gordon as charming as Myers.

“While it’s an entertaining documentary, audiences may not find the 68-year-old Gordon’s trajectory quite as fascinating as Myers appears to,” said Puig in the USA Today article.
