The “Survivor” community has been left in grief by Caleb Bankston’s tragic demise in a train accident in Birmingham, Alabama. Bankston was a railway worker at the Alabama Warrior Railway. According to a new report from People magazine, Bankston was killed when a train he was working on at the Alabama Warrior Railway in Birmingham, Alabama got derailed and tragically crushed him to death. The particulars of the accident are still vague. According to the Birmingham News, reports of the accident took place at the Walter Coke Plant in Birmingham on Tuesday, June 24, 2104. Bankston was reportedly standing on the stepladder of a hopper car and directing an engineer who was backing up a train when the car all of a sudden derailed and killed him.
According to his Facebook page, Bankston was a Locomotive Engineer/Conductor at Alabama Warrior Railway. He leaves behind his fiancé, Colton Cumbie. He participated with him in “Survivor: Blood vs. Water” in 2013 and came in 9th place. The couple planned to tie the knot in October 2014. Colton must be heartbroken and inconsolable right now because of his tragic demise. Twitter users say that Colton tweeted from his protected account, “I just wish it was me….” after learning the tragic news, the UK’s Daily Mail reports.
Bankston’s death was also be mourned by his fellow “Survivor” contestants, including Aras Baskauskas.
“Caleb was an amazing man and friend,” revealed Aras to People magazine.
“One of the sweetest and most sincere humans I’ve ever come across. I am gutted by his loss. My thoughts and prayers are with his family,” Aras added.
Sabrina Thompson, who participated in “Survivor: One World,” with Caleb’s fiancé, Colton, said that the young couple were the ideal love birds.
“While playing Survivor with Colton, he would talk about his boyfriend, Caleb, around the clock 24/7. Within seconds of meeting Caleb at the finale and Survivor events, it’s no wonder why he raved about him. You were instantly drawn to his big smile, warm spirit and Southern charm. May God rest his soul … gone too soon,” said Thompson to People magazine.
It is absolutely heartbreaking to find out that Bankston has passed on at such a youthful age. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Colton and the rest of Caleb’s family and friends during this trying time.
