“12 Monkeys” is an upcoming TV show on the SyFy network. It is slated to begin airing in January 2015, but SyFy has shown a glimpse of it in a recent teaser highlighting its many programs. Read further to learn more about “12 Monkeys.”

The television adaptation of a Terry Gilliam movie that was a blockbuster release in 1995, “12 Monkeys” is about a time traveler from the future who returns to the present in order to find the source and prevent the spread of a plague that was to wipe out humans in the year 2035.  The TV series will star Aaron Standford (“Nikita”) as Cole, the time traveler, and Amanda Schull (“Suits”) as Cassandra Railly, the doctor who  joins Cole in his mission. These roles were played by Bruce Willis (“Die Hard”) and Madeleine Stowe (“Revenge”) in the film version, with Brad Pitt (“World War Z”) also part of the cast.

Translating “12 Monkeys” to the small screen are Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, most noted for their work in “Nikita.” The two will serve as writers and producers of the pilot episode. Charles Roven, who has produced the movie, will also be producing the TV series. The show will also star Noah Bean (“Nikita”) and Kirk Acevedo (“Fringe”).

The teaser, as shown in the video below, compiles many of SyFy’s programs, with new shows like “Dominion” and returning shows like “Defiance,” “Helix” and “Haven.” If you blink, you may miss the part where SyFy actually shows bits of “12 Monkeys,” so we have provided an account of the teaser specifically for “12 Monkeys.”

The video showed Cole (Standford) with a pair of watches, objects that will be important to the story, as Cole uses these to prove to Cassie (Schull) that he is from the future. It’s a neat science fiction trick that demonstrates the show’s potential.

In the other scene, men with protective gears are shown to have torched bodies, while Cole, who seemed to be time-traveling, declares that, “everyone is already dead.” The short clip also revealed the logo of the 12 Monkeys.
