SyFy is adapting James S.A. Corey’s best-selling book series for television entitled “The Expanse.” The show will have Thomas Jane (“Hung”) in the starring role. Read further for more about this news story.

Taking place 200 years into the future, “The Expanse” will tackle the story of a young heiress who has gone missing. Thomas Jane will play Miller, whose character is described as a hardened detective. Tasked to look for the heiress, he will be working alongside a sidekick, who is described as a rogue ship captain and whose part is yet to be cast. Their missions will bring them around the solar system in search for the girl, and as they do this, the two will come to expose what is possibly the biggest conspiracy in the history of mankind.

In April 2014, SyFy has picked up “The Expanse” for a 10-episode series order.  The show is written and executively produced by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby for Alcon Television Group. The two have worked in movies like “Iron Man” and “Children of Men.” “The Expanse” is Alcon Television Group’s very first series according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Terry McDonough, who has directed episodes of “Breaking Bad” and “Suits,” will be directing the pilot for this series.

“Leviathan Wakes” is the most popular book in “The Expanse” series, earning a Hugo Award nomination for Best Novel in 2012. The story has been compared to “Star Wars,” “Firefly/Serenity” and “Game of Thrones.” Its writer, James S.A. Corey, is actually a pseudonym for Daniel Abraham and Ty Frank, who will both be serving as producers on the television show as well.

“The Expanse is epic in scale and scope and promises to be SyFy’s most ambitious series to date. Bringing this coveted book franchise to television with our partners at Alcon and the Sean Daniel Company is a giant win for SyFy, reinforcing our overall strategy to produce bold, provocative and compelling sci-fi fantasy stories,” said SyFy’s president David Howe in a press release published on Entertainment Weekly.

“The Expanse” is scheduled for airing in 2015.

And that’s the news about the upcoming sci-fi series “The Expanse,” which will start its run on the SyFy cable network in 2015. For more updates about this show, check back to Movie News Guide (MNG).
