According to an exclusive report on TV Line, the animated Disney movie which gave a different spin to the classic tale of Rapunzel, will be getting an animated television series spin-off that is slated to appear on the Disney Channel in 2017.
The television series will be set between the events of the original film and “Tangled Ever After,” a short which was released in 2012. It featured the horse Maximus and the chameleon Pascal, and their shenanigans during the wedding day of Rapunzel (Mandy Moore) and Flynn Rider (Zachary Levi), whose real name is Eugene Fitzherbert.
It turns out that before Rapunzel and Flynn got married, and before she settled into the duties that she had to take on as she was royalty, Rapunzel had to get to know her parents more after being apart from them for her entire life. Later on, discovering that she still had to learn so much more things before going to this exciting new chapter in her life, she, Flynn, her chameleon Pascal, Flynn’s horse Maximus and the Snuggly Duckling Pub Thugs go out on more epic adventures. They are also joined by a new character, Cassandra, her handmaiden who later on also becomes her confidant.
Aside from the fact that Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi will be returning to reprise their roles as Rapunzel and Flynn, respectively. It makes the animated series so exciting is the fact that other artists in the creative team will be back for more fun and quirky adventures.
According to the Disney Blog, Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menkan and lyricist Glenn Slater, who composed and penned the music of the movie, will be back to create the music and soundtrack of the animated series. Also, Clare Keane, the daughter of legend Glen Keane who supervised the animation of the film, will be joining the creative team as well.
Based on the concept art that was posted on both sites, it looks like the series will be getting a more two dimensional treatment. It makes it wholly different from the movie, which was completely computer animated.
This isn’t the first time that a television series has spun off from a Disney movie. Other examples include a “101 Dalmations” animated series; a “Little Mermaid” television series; an “Aladdin” television show, which not only had a series, but three other movies as well. A “Snow White “ spin-off, entitled “7D”, will be airing during the fall; and “The Lion King”, which had a spin-off movie, and an animated series centered around Timon and Pumbaa, will also have a new movie called the “Lion Guard”, centered around Simba’s son, which will be released as a television movie this November as a precursor to a Disney Junior television series.
