TBS challenges the norm of traditional police procedurals by adding some fun with the network’s newest series “Angie Tribeca,” starring “Parks and Recreation” star Rashida Jones. It will premiere in 2015. Want to learn more about Rashida’s first-ever TV starring role? Read on to find more about “Angie Tribeca.”
According to Deadline, TNT/TBS/TMC president and head of programming Michael Wright announced the 10-episode season order for “Angie Tribeca.” The newest single-comedy drama is created and executively produced by former SNL alums Steve and Nancy Carrell with Campbell Smith and Thom Hinkle.
“Angie Tribeca is a hilarious spoof of police procedurals in the spirit of The Naked Gun, with a terrific cast and a wickedly funny point of view,” said Wright in the Deadline article.
On the other hand, Deadline also reported on several cast members and their roles in the upcoming TBS comedy series.
“Angie Tribeca” will follow Rashida Jones as a ten-year veteran of LAPD’s RHCU (Really Heinous Crimes Unit). Considered as the most capable member, she will be joined by a band of misfit police officers on investigating cold and heinous cases.
Unfortunately, her work wouldn’t be easy when she receives a grave news from her boss, Chet Atkins (Jere Burns of “Justified”). Angie is told that she needs to accept (guest star Hayes Macarthur of “Go On.” Andree Vermeulen will take on the role of a quirky medical examiner named Dr. Monica Scholls.
It was also reported that the pilot will put the Jones family on the spotlight. Grammy-winning music artist Quincy Jones and former model-actress Peggy Lipton will also play as their real-life daughter’s on-screen parents.
Other notable actor and actresses were also tapped to join the pilot episode, including Lisa Kudrow (“The Comeback”), Gary Cole (“The Good Wife”), Nancy Carell (“The Office”) and Matthew Glave (“Growing Up Fisher”).
Alfred Molina of “Monday Mornings” will portray a toy-loving, handwriting expert named Dr. Edelweiss, while “Barbershops” star Dean Cole will take on the role of K-9 unit head Officer DJ Tanner.
It seems that the fun-filled theme of spoofing procedural drama had been proven to be successful. Andy Samberg had his share of attention due to the critically acclaimed freshman season of FOX’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” series, which gave him his first ever Golden Globes Awards in 2013.
Both Samberg and Jones had starred in their first lead roles in the indie rom-com movie “Celeste and Jesse Forever.” There would be a slight chance that they might reunite because of their busy schedules. Until then, let’s just wait and see if it would have the same successful run as “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” did.
