FX Network has announced the return date of its spy drama “The Americans.” The show will be starting its third season on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at 9:00 p.m. on the cable channel. Read on for some of the details as to what fans of the series can expect for its upcoming season.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the third season of “The Americans” will open with a time jump, roughly four months after the events of the second season and specifically around the end of 1982.

The show’s executive producer relates that Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth (Keri Russell) will still remain conflicted about allowing their daughter Paige to enter the program. This dilemma was left hanging when season two ended. The couple are still not on the same page about this even after some time has elapsed.

The Daily Mail also posted photos and videos from the set of “The Americans,” where filming is currently taking place in Queens, New York.

As the show is set in the 1980s, the photos feature a dowdy looking Keri Russell in a wig and wearing her trademark big glasses, ugly shoes and unflattering clothes. Russell plays KGB spy Elizabeth Jennings in the series, whose undercover clothes have become such a huge and fascinating part of the show, along with her co-star Matthew Rhys’ wigs.

Meanwhile, as more details to the plot of the third season have yet to be revealed, the series has earlier announced the addition of Frank Langella to the cast, who will assume the role of the new handler for Philip and Elizabeth, replacing Margo Martindale’s Claudia. The show has also upped the status of Lev Gorn as a series regular, as we reported in September. He plays the Russian spy Arkady Ivanovich.

“The Americans” is one of FX’s critically lauded shows. The series was cited by the American Film Institute (AFI) in 2013 as part of its Top 10 selection. The show has also received numerous award nominations from organizations like the Emmy’s, Television Critics Association, Writers Guild of America and Broadcast Television Journalist Association.

FX renewed the show for a third season last April 2014.
