“The Big Bang Theory” Season 8 Episode 11 “The Clean Room Infiltration” aired on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. on CBS. The boys had to handle a situation at work, while Amy and Penny waited for them for Amy’s Victorian-themed Christmas party. Sheldon was determined to sabotage this party, however, because he hated it. Find out what happened in the episode in the recap below.
Amy (Mayim Bailik) offered to host this year’s Christmas dinner when Raj (Kunal Nayyar) said he won’t be able to. His father, who’s in the midst of a divorce, would be coming over, so he won’t have time to prepare. Amy said that Raj’s dad could go to the dinner too, as she will be preparing a Victorian feast. Sheldon (Jim Parsons) hated Amy’s themed dinner so much, he was thinking of not going. Raj wished Amy good luck and hoped the rest of them would be excited. They were not into themed parties all that much. They hated this Tom Hanks-giving themed party before.
And so, dinner was set. Raj, his father and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) were the first guests at Amy’s, but then Raj received a call from Leonard (Johnny Galecki) to come help him and Howard (Simon Halberg) with an incident at work. Raj had to leave his father with the girls for a while.
The incident involved a pigeon that infiltrated the clean room, where Howard and Leonard were supposed to do work. But they now can’t do anything because it has been compromised. Someone forgot to close the loading door, and the boys were sure Howard was to blame for this. Howard was quick to deny it was his fault. Why do they always assumed it was him?
Leonard: Because you do this thing all the time and you try to cover it up!
To be fair, Leonard’s plan was to report the incident to building services right away, but Howard came up with all these ridiculous ideas. The boys nearly killed the pigeon too when they used the fire extinguisher to force it to leave the room. Howard had to do an emergency CPR on it, so it lived. However, a crow also flew in just as they had the situation under control. Now, they have two infiltrations!
Leonard called his girlfriend to tell him they could take a while. But Penny suggested — why don’t they just erase their names on the sign-up sheet and leave the building as if nothing happened? And that’s what they ended up doing.
Back at the Victorian party, Mr. Koothrappalli was a good sport about Amy’s themed dinner ideas. He played this Victorian game of wool blowing with her, while Penny watched and rolled her eyes. He also Heimliched Amy when she swallowed a ball of wool.
Meanwhile, Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) was tasked to bring Sheldon to the dinner party. But during the ride in her car, he was still thinking about how Amy did not even consider his feelings when she sought to do the Victorian dinner. She also had the gall to kiss him in public under a mistletoe! So, Sheldon decided to teach Amy a lesson: he’s going to buy her a Christmas present. This rationale got Bernie confused.
Sheldon: With gift-giving, there’s an implied social contract. If I showed up tonight with a present and she doesn’t have one for me, she’ll feel terrible.
The two made a quick detour to the mall to find Amy’s gift, and Sheldon perfectly described the kind of present for his girlfriend. Bernadette noted that Sheldon talked about her with fondness, so he must really love her. Sheldon said he does, but he needed to find the gift to make his girlfriend miserable.
The gift was a photo of him sitting on Santa’s lap, which Amy actually really loved. Even better, she had a present ready for him. She made a batch of Sheldon’s favorite cookies using his Meemaw’s recipe. His plan backfired because Amy was not miserable at all, and it did not matter in the end because Sheldon was also happy.
It turned to be a good Victorian-themed Christmas party after all!
