“The Big Bang Theory” Season 8 Episode 7 “The Misinterpretation Agitation” aired on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. on CBS. Penny has an admirer who decided to pursue her by visiting her apartment. The show featured a surprise special guest star in Billy Bob Thorton, who played Dr. Oliver Lorvis. Read on for the recap.
While the girls were hanging out at Penny’s (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting), Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) told them that she was chosen to be in a magazine feature. It will have the top 50 sexy female scientists in California. Amy (Mayim Bailik) thought this was offensive and demeaning, as the women should be featured for their work and not their physical beauty. Penny was fine with it, saying that sometimes women do use their sexuality to be recognized. Bernadette, on the other hand, thought that women can be both sexy and smart, which is why she wanted to participate in the feature.
Later on, Bernadette sadly told Amy that the shoot was not going to happen. It was canceled. Amy confessed that she made this happen because she called the magazine editors to complain about the feature. Bernadette accused Amy for sabotaging because she was jealous.
Amy: It was bad publicity.
Bernadette: That’s for me to decide, not you.
Amy: I disagree. As a female scientist, I think what you do affects all of us.
Bernadette: And I think you don’t like people expressing their sexuality because no one wants you to express yours.
This statement hurt Amy, so she walked out.
Sheldon (Jim Parsons) came across a man in his building. He was bringing a bouquet of flowers for this woman who does sales calls at work, where he's a doctor. Sheldon realized that this woman he was talking about was Penny. He later told Leonard (Johnny Galecki) about the man, and so Leonard introduced himself as Penny’s fiancé, but the doctor, Oliver Lorvis (Billy Bob Thorton), was not aware she was engaged. Penny doesn’t have a ring, and she apparently gave him a flirty wink. She also touched his arm for about two Mississippis. That meant she liked him, right?
Upset that Penny was only flirting with him for nothing, Sheldon, who has taken a liking to the doctor, invited Lorvis into his apartment and offered hot beverage. Howard (Simon Helberg) and Raj (Kunnal Nayyar) were in there too. When they learned that Dr. Lorvis is actually the “urologist to the stars” who’s constantly being gifted with many geek memorabilia by celebrities like William Shatner or James Cameron, they were naturally very impressed, including Leonard.
Penny dropped by the boys’ apartment and saw that Dr. Lorvis was there. When she found out why, she apologized, saying she didn’t mean to lead him on. She and Leonard had a talk at the hallway, admitting that sometimes she does cover up her engagement ring as being “single” gets her more sales. But can Leonard make Dr. Lorvis leave? It might get her in trouble at work.
Thankfully, the guys were really going somewhere. They were off to the doctor’s house to check out all of his memorabilia, and what a collection it was! The original Terminator was on display, along with other stuff that excited the nerdy boys.
While they were busy at the doctor’s “Fortress of Solitude,” Lorvis locked them in so that he can go back to Penny. He brought another bouquet of roses, this time coming across Amy at the stairs. They hit it off right away. When Amy touched his arms for about three Mississippis, he knew it was love. When Penny opened the door, Lorvis declared that they should just be friends because he wanted to be with Amy.
Penny, however, invited him inside her apartment with Amy and tried to talk to him about women, but then Leonard called her up to tell her that they have been locked in the basement. The doctor meant no harm though. He just really wanted to be alone with Penny before.
So along with the girls (as Bernadette was by the stairs looking for Amy to apologize to her), they all went back to the doctor’s house to free their significant others. However, when they got there, boys were just having way too much fun with the doctor’s stuff.
