The Big Bang Theory Recap: The Septum Deviation [WATCH VIDEO]

The Big Bang Theory” Season 8 Episode 9 “The Septum Deviation” aired on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. on CBS. Leonard got a minor routine surgery, and this worried Sheldon. Meanwhile, Howard and Bernadette discussed matters in their marriage after learning that Raj’s parents was getting a divorce.

After a check-up with the doctor, Leonard (Johnny Galecki) was advised to undergo surgery for his deviated septum. Sheldon (Jim Parsons) was against this. He believed it was not necessary; that surgery is always risky,, and Leonard’s condition was hardly life-threatening. Later that night, he convinced his roommate to not go ahead with his plans after doing extensive research and finding out that 1 in 700,000 patients die during surgery due to anesthesia.

Leonard: Do you realize that that also means 699,999 people don’t die?
Sheldon: I suppose that’s true. You’re such a glass half-full kind of guy!

The next day, Sheldon still wouldn’t let this go. He even came up with a very elaborate equation of what could go wrong during Leonard’s surgery. He was that worried.

To appease his roommate, Leonard told Sheldon that he will think the surgery over and will advise him if he’s going to go ahead with it next week. But the truth was, Leonard was actually going to go into surgery that day. He lied to Sheldon about going swimming with Penny (Kaley Cuoco). Of course, Amy (Mayim Bailik) knew about this plan too. So when Sheldon learned of the truth, he demanded to be driven to the hospital.

Sheldon: Amy, he’s my best friend and if you don’t take me, I’m going there anyway.
Amy: Fine. It’s sweet that you care about him so much.
Sheldon: I do. I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself if something happened to him and I wasn’t at his bedside to say, “I told you so.”

At the hospital, Penny assured Sheldon that Leonard was going to be all right. But then, a short jolt (earthquake) and a power interruption made Sheldon panic that he ran towards the surgery room to make sure that nothing happened to his friend. He hit his nose on a glass door instead.

Later, Leonard and Sheldon returned to their apartment with bandages on their noses and talking really funny. They still bickered about the surgery even as this was done with much success. Without actually implying it, the roommates clearly had so much love for each other.

Meanwhile, Raj (Kunal Nayyar) found out that his parents, who were married for 40 years, were getting a divorce. Apparently, their resentment towards each other built up over time, and this struck Howard (Simon Helberg) and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch). Not wanting this to happen in their own marriage, the two decided to talk about the things that frustrated them so that they won’t have any resentments.

But Howard suggested that they should talk about the good stuff, as he has learned in couple’s therapy with Raj a long time ago. The compliments, however, grew sarcastic, and their resentments surfaced.

Bernadette: I love that you have the confidence to speak, without giving it an ounce of thought.
Howard: I love how your hair is always on the soap, it’s like washing myself with a hamster.

This only stopped when Raj arrived to have dinner with them. Will these two be able to work it out?
