The Blacklist” Season 2 Episode 9 “No. 21: Luther Braxton” aired last Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015 at 10:15 p.m., right after the Superbowl on NBC. In this episode, FBI Agent Elizabeth “Liz” Keen (Megan Boone), FBI Agent Donald Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) and Mossad Agent Samar Navabi (Mozhan Marno) found themselves entangled in a precarious situation after they arrived a CIA Blacksite Prison in order to rescue Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader). It was hours after he predicted the break out of a thief named Luther Braxton (Ron Perlman) who has a long history with Red. Liz and Red then raced against time in order to stop Braxton from stealing some information from the prison’s servers. In the process, they discovered that what Braxton was after, her past, and Red’s past were intricately connected. Read on to learn more about this episode.

The episode opened with news agencies over the globe reporting that Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader), had been arrested in Hong Kong and was placed under American custody. Once in custody, he was brought to a “CIA Blacksite Prison, somewhere in the Bering Sea.”

In Washington DC, Assistant Director Harold Cooper (Harry Lennix) got word that Red had been arrested abroad. He instructed everyone to find out where he was. While they did this, FBI Agent Donald Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) told them that Red had gotten himself arrested on purpose.

Inside his cell, Red tried to bribe Master Sergeant Desmond with $50,000 so that he could talk to the warden “for two minutes.”

Back in Washington DC, Ressler discovered that Red had been placed in a prison known as “The Factory,” a “Level 10 Detention Facility” and a “slaughterhouse for spies.” Prisoners who were transferred there were transferred there because they knew how to withstand the normal means of torture.

Back at “The Factory,” Red informed Warden Mills that they had less than twelve hours before an inmate named Luther Braxton (Ron Perlman) would escape and steal a “classified information packet” that would be a threat to national security if he got away with it. He also informed the warden that everything for Braxton’s escape was in place. He also said that in less than twelve hours, many people, including the warden would die. However, the warden was confident that this wouldn’t happen as Braxton was currently in “solitary.”

Braxton, who was being tortured, was given a break. He was instructed to go back to his cell. However, before he did so, one of the guards in the torture chamber gave him a wire, which he promptly swallowed.

Back in Washington DC, Harold met up with the CIA Director (David Straithan) and their liaison to their office. Kat Goodson (Janel Moloney) informed them that Red had been talking about an inmate named Luther Braxton. According to their research, Braxton was a “thief who pulls off heists in the midst of chaos.” FBI Agent Elizabeth “Liz” Keen (Megan Boone) noted that Braxton was “highly meticulous,” “well organized,” and “bloody.” They also inferred that both he and Red knew each other, some way or another. Kat then gave Harold’s team access to the facility. She instructed them to get to Red in order to learn what he was planning. Thanks to this, Ressler, Liz, and Mossad Agent Samar Navabi (Mozhan Marno), boarded a chopper to get there and to extract Red.

Meanwhile, inside The Factory, using the wiring in his mouth, and other things on hand, Braxton connected the wires of the light in his cell, and placed toilet water on the floor, so that when the guard’s key touched his metal door when it came to dinner time, the guard would be electrocuted, and an alarm would be sounded. Afterwards, an entire unit came to his door and tried to smoke him out, but it failed, and ended up with Braxton overpowering the men. He shot them to death and took their guns from them. Afterwards, he went over to Block B of the prison and released around five to eight men, who all had specialized fields. All of those men comprised his team.

Afterwards, the warden went to Red and told him that a helicopter was on its way to evacuate him. However, Red warned him to radio the helicopter to turn around, but it was too late. As soon as the chopper landed, they were attacked by several gunmen, who shot Samar’s ankle, and the guard that was trying to tell them to turn around. The men then took the guard, Samar, and Ressler as hostages. Liz, who had been separated from the group and was hiding in a corner, watched them lead her teammates away. Meanwhile, right before Desmond brought Red out, he accepted Red’s $50,000 in exchange for some help so that they would both make it out alive.

Inside the control room, where Braxton was, he ordered the Cambodian hacker in his team to shut down the power in the facility.

When Ressler and Samar came to, they discovered that they had been placed a few centimeters above a footrest, and nooses made out of chains were around their necks.

Back in Washington DC, Agent Rosenberg, the CIA’s negotiator tried to reason out with Braxton, but that only got Warden Mills killed. Harold then decided to talk to Braxton.

Meanwhile, Liz managed to get into the prison. She was spotted and grabbed by Red, who demanded to know why she was there. Red then informed her that Braxton was going to steal something called “The Fulcrum.” It is a “blackmail file that contained proof of the existence of a clandestine organization” composed of powerful and influential people. Red then warned that if the file did get out to the public, then these people would either “be jailed or executed.” However, the file wasn’t onsite, but information “critical to finding it” was there. Liz then stubbornly decided to help Red out. She refused to get on the helicopter without Red, Ressler, and Samar.

Red then went to the warden’s office, where he met up with Desmond, Kahn and Gerned, who were going to help them out. Gerned then suggested that the server room that Braxton and company had to access was beside the boiler room. He realized that the best way to stop them would be to blow up the room by reprogramming the boiler room to overload. Liz then had no choice but to crawl through the air duct so that she could open up Red and Gerned from the other end.

As Braxton had detected a breach in the warden’s room, he called the room up, only to be answered by Red. Braxton, however, felt confident that Red had “gotten soft” after the incident in Belgrade. He claimed that he had bested Red. However, Red warned Braxton that he was going to stop him from getting The Fulcrum.

Back in the room where prisoners were usually killed, Samar tried to get the Farsi speaking man to be more lenient towards the man in the middle, as he had a stomach wound. Braxton then entered the room and called Harold. He demanded that they give his the master code in ten minutes, or else Samar would die. Kat refused to give the master code to Braxton. She explained to Harold that it was because a level 6 intelligence node, and access point to all of the most secure data and information of the country was there. It was because they had wanted that as soon as they got the intelligence out of the prisoners, that operatives and the White House would learn about it right away. However, after hearing Samar gasping for air on the other end, Harold gave in and gave the code, ensuring that Samar would still be alive.

Afterwards, Braxton’s team entered the server room, and got the computers running.

Meanwhile, Liz managed to open the door for Red and Gerned. However, Gerned informed them that they would have to overload it manually with two people. One  will need to man the temperature control, and the other one to open and close the pressure valves every ninety seconds. As soon as it hit 700 psi, they would only have ten to twenty seconds to get out. As Kahn and Gerned left, Liz and Red did it together.

Back in Washington DC, the members of Fulcrum met with the Director of the CIA. He told them that Red did not have The Fulcrum. As one of the members remembered that it was a black site, she suggested that the Director of the CIA order an air strike to eliminate both Red and Braxton. Later on, the Director instructed Kat to order the strike. As soon as the drones launched, Harold learned about it right away. He also discovered that it would take less than thirty minutes for them to get there.

Meanwhile, in the server room, Braxton’s team began downloading the data that they needed.

In the boiler room, Liz learned that Red wanted to stop Braxton from getting The Fulcrum. Tt was because “it was the only thing” that kept the organization from killing him. They believed that he had it. He then informed her that he had not wanted her to be there and that he had to stop him. Braxton would also discover “that he can’t get to the Fulcrum without” Liz. However, before Liz could ask anymore questions, the boiler went critical. Red and Liz then tried to protect themselves and get out, but were prevented by several men who shot at them. They had checked out the server room as they had succeeded to place the entire facility offline.

After the explosion, Liz tried to get Red to breathe again. It was stopped short as some men entered. She covered Red up, and tried to fight them. She was overpowered, and brought to Braxton, whom she told that Red was dead. Back in the boiler room, Desmond woke Red up and gave him a gun.

Meanwhile, Braxton instructed Yousef to finish off the hostages, including Samar and Ressler. They had to leave with their chopper that was on its way. However, before he could shoot Liz in the head, Red burst in shooting everyone, and in the process, shot Braxton in the arm. He then handed over the gun to Liz, who pointed it at Braxton. Red then told him that The Fulcrum wasn’t worth it, but Braxton told him that he knew “where it was twenty years ago.” He knew when it disappeared. After telling Red that he knew about “the house, fire, and the girl,” he began to see Liz in a different light. He then told Red that he knew that Liz was there, in the fire, years ago. He also said that the reason why he had come back for her was because “she was the one.” As Red told Liz to shoot him, the entire facility was hit by a missile which was launched from the drone planes.
