The Divergent Series star Theo James has confirmed he will not be a part of the last Divergent movie, The Divergent Series: Ascendant. Earlier, it had been announced that this final installment will be released as a TV movie.
The reason behind Theo James’ exit from the final installment has been now revealed by the actor himself.
“It’s a shame not to finish the last movie, but I think the studio wanted to take it into a different area, and it’s evolving into something that I don’t think I’ll be part of,” James said as reported by Entertainment Tonight.
Theo James Quits, Shailene Woodley Remains?
The fate of the TV movie The Divergent Series: Ascendant looms after Theo James confirmed his exit. Speculations are rife if Shailene Woodley and other cast members will be still on board or not.
ET Online reports that so far it is not clear if any the original stars have an interest in getting involved in the potential TV series. Aside from James, the other cast members are Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller and Zoe Kravitz
The Divergent Series: Allegiant had a poor box office performance. As a result, the fate of fourth and final installment, The Divergent Series: Ascendant looms in darkness before the release.
Theo James’ Next Project
Theo James has been focusing on his upcoming film Underworld: Blood Wars. It was since The Divergent Series star is no more involved with the final installment of the series.
He tells ET why he did not mind putting himself in harm’s way on the set of the action horror movie. He says, “Otherwise, you’re basically doing nothing but eating craft services and getting fat and drinking a lot.”
Underworld: Blood Wars is a sequel to the Underworld Franchise and is the fifth upcoming installment.
The Divergent Series is a feature film series. It is based on Veronica Roth’s Divergent book series. The first installment titled Divergent was released in 2014; the second installment titled The Divergent Series: Insurgent was released in 2015; and the third one, The Divergent Series: Allegiant was released this year in March.
