During the premiere of “The Expendables 3” in London, its star and producer, Sylvester Stallone, has confirmed that a spinoff featuring a female action hero is already underway. The movie will be called “The Expendabelles,” and Stallone is keen on getting Sigourney Weaver to star in it. Read further to learn more about this news story.

Even before rumors of a female-oriented reboot of “Spider-Man” and “Ghostbusters” have been floating around, Sylvester Stallone was already on to the idea of making a female version of his box office movie, “The Expendables,” whose third installment opens in theaters on Aug. 15, 2014.

Speaking to the press during a London premiere of “The Expendables 3,” Stallone revealed that a script for “The Expendabelles” is already in the works, with a potential plot that would start with a messy divorce. The actor also noted that he would like “Alien” star Sigourney Weaver to play the female lead for the spinoff, with Weaver playing his character’s wife, who shall get the house, the kids and his mercenaries in the divorce. Weaver has already proven she is one major badass from doing all of those “Alien” franchises.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, filming for “The Expendabelles” is set for 2015, and Robert Luketic is already attached as its director. Avi Lerner, who produced the rest of “The Expendables,” is also on board as producer for this female version. In fact, Lerner said in the same premiere that he has already thought of several actresses for the movie. One of his choices was rumored to include Meryl Streep.

Meanwhile, according to The Telegraph, this synopsis for the “The Expendabelles” first went around last February:

When America’s Navy SEALs are wiped out trying to penetrate the island lair of a deadly despot who has captured one of the world’s top nuclear scientists, it becomes clear that there is no such thing as the right man for the job and that this is a mission so impossible that only women can handle it. The only way in: some of the world’s deadliest female operatives must pose as high-class call-girls shipped in by private plane to satisfy a dictator – and instead save the scientist and the day.

And that’s the news on the “The Expendabelles,” the female version spinoff of “The Expendables” franchise, which Sylvester Stallone hopes will star Sigourney Weaver. For more on this movie and other entertainment updates, follow Movie News Guide (MNG).
