The Last Ship” Season 1 Episode 3 “Dead Reckoning” aired on Sunday, July 6, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. on TNT. Tom Chandler (Eric Dane) and his crew finally knew the identity of the Russians who were after them. They demanded that the commander gives up Dr. Scott (Rhona Mitra) and the virus cure. Meanwhile, the traitor, Dr. Tophet (Sam Spruell), explained to Dr. Scott why he betrayed them. Find out more about this episode in the recap below.

“Dead Reckoning” opened with Chandler discussing the demands made by the Russian admiral, Ruskov (Ravil Isyanov), who wanted Chandler to surrender Dr. Scott to him, as well as the virus’ primordial strain. Chandler insisted that they negotiate face-to-face, and so they met at a neutral ground in Gitmo. Things became heated when Chandler wouldn’t budge from Ruskov’s threats, refusing to surrender Dr. Scott, even as the Ruskov shot one of his men to show Chandler just how serious he was about his demands.

Ruskov, motivated by greed, told Chandler that with everyone all over the world under a state of panic, it’s high time a new ruler steps in to create a new civilization. That could only happen if the new ruler has the cure,  and he needed Dr. Scott and the strain to accomplish this.

While the two commanders deliberated, Chandler’s XO Mike Slattery (Adam Baldwin) saw that the Russians were using this chance to fortify their position. Not to be outdone and upon Chandler’s orders from before he met with Ruskov, Slattery monitored two of their men who were finding a way to bomb the Russian ship. But before these men could accomplish the task, they were spotted and killed by the Russians.

Despite what already went on, Chandler and the crew of the USS Nathan James stood their ground, as the men continued to come up with a plan to leave the Gitmo harbor and immobilize the Russians. They thought that sending a decoy would work, but it came with some complications, one of which was alarming Ruskov’s men.

Meanwhile, Dr. Tophet, in a desperate attempt to kidnap Dr. Scott and bring her to Ruskov, broke down and told Dr. Scott the real reason why he was helping the Russians. His family was with Ruskov, and the admiral was using that as leverage. He also disclosed more information, which Chandler used as part of the decoy.  Their plan barely worked, but USS Nathan James was able to leave the harbor, damaging Ruskov’s ship in the process. But have we seen the last of Ruskov and his crew?

At this point, it should be mentioned that there was a brewing romance, albeit forbidden, between two of Chandler’s crew — Kara (Marissa Neitling) and Danny (Travis Van Winkle) — and in the latest mission, it seemed like their relationship could become a potential problem when it comes to carrying out their tasks. What will Chandler do when he finds out about the relationship?

And that’s what went on in the episode “Dead Reckoning,” which was another action-packed feature. Follow our updates on “The Last Ship” every week, only here at “Movie News Guide (MNG).”
