Simmons) sent his children, Meelo (Logan Wells), Ikki (Darcy Rose Byrnes) and Jinora (Kiernan Shipka) on a mission to find Avatar Korra (Janet Varney). Read on to learn more about this episode.
Tenzin’s children prepared themselves for their first big mission. They need to find the Avatar Korra so that she could respond to Kuvira (Zelda Williams), who was taking over the Earth Empire. Their mother, Pema (Maria Bamford), gave them a sack of food for their journey, much to Meelo’s annoyance. Tenzin also reminded them to pay attention when their eldest Jinora sensed Korra’s energy nearby.
During their first pit stop, Jinora meditated so that she could pinpoint where Korra was by honing in on her spiritual energy. While she did this, Ikki and Meelo went off to the neighboring towns to see if anyone had seen Korra around recently. Meelo had drawn a picture of Korra and did the talking. He also instructed Ikki to hold up the picture for him. However, despite their combined efforts, they could not seem to find her. They were able to get an actual lead when they passed by a food vendor by the docks, as a picture of Korra was hung on his wall beside a picture of Aang. He then informed them that Korra had passed by his stall around six months ago and that she did not look very well. Then Meelo blamed both Jinora and Ikki for not “being a good leader” and for “not pulling her weight," respectively.
After travelling for a bit, they picked another site to set up camp. While Jinora meditated, Ikki realized that their food supply was missing. They learned that Meelo had thrown everything into the river so that they could “live off the land” and “hunt for food." Frustrated that none of them wanted her help, Ikki went off on her own in order to collect some food. Along the way, she got captured by two Earth Kingdom soldiers at a remote Earth Kingdom outpost. As the two soldiers realized that she was one of Tenzin’s children, they decided to capture all of them so that they could get a promotion when they handed them over to Kuvira. However, while she was held captive, Ikki was able to get their help into finding out where Korra might be. She also found their sack of food, as one of the soldiers had retrieved it from the river. At that moment, Ikki and Jinora burst in and saved Ikki from the soldiers. Ikki then told them that Korra might be in the swamp area of the Earth Kingdom, as none of the Earth Kingdom troops ventured there and because it had a lot of spiritual energy.
When they got to the swamp, both Jinora and Meelo decided not to stop at the swamp. Despite Ikki’s objections, Jinora could not feel Korra’s energy there. However, they were forced to stay at the swamp as the swamp vines dragged them down.
Meanwhile, Korra was sent by Toph to collect mushrooms for their dinner. While she looked for it, she had visions of Unalaq, Aman, and Zaheer and of all the ordeals and fights she had gone through. Korra then complained that the swamp did “crazy things” to her, but Toph told her that she knew that that would happen. The swamp knew that she was unbalanced at the moment and wanted to help heal her. She also told her that the swamp could teach her things, if only she was open minded. As they talked, Toph made Korra realized that her past fights haunted her as she was “carrying around” her “former enemies” just like she carried around the metal poison in her. She also reminded her that she can’t “face new enemies if she carried around her old ones.” Toph then showed her the banyon tree, whose roots connected the entire swamp together. She then told Korra that her problem was that she had been so disconnected from herself and from her loved ones. As Korra used her energy to feel the roots that spread all throughout the swamp, she saw Jinora, Ikki, and Meelo. In turn, Jinora sensed Korra.
They then were introduced to Toph. Meelo told Korra that the world needed her again as Kuvira was taking over the Earth Empire. However, she told them that she couldn’t even go into the avatar state.
Later in Toph’s cave, Korra aws encouraged by Toph to let go of her fears. As the past fights were over, she was able to finally metalbend the metal poison out and return into the avatar state. After hugging Toph and bidding her goodbye, Korra, Jinora, Meelo and Ikki left to go back home.
