While on the BAFTAs where “The LEGO Movie” won Best Animated Film, LEGO helmers Chris Miller and Phil Lord shares the newest update for the upcoming LEGO movie spinoff “LEGO Batman Movie” where they serve as writers. Read on for further details of the story.
During the red carpet of the annual event, Digital Spy asked Miller, Lord and producer Dan Lin asked the spinoff’s latest upfate. The trio hinted that the movie will “take full advantage of the world of Gotham.” They added that they will include other DC characters such as Joker, but didn’t disclose any details on this.
Miller and Lord will serve as writers for the “LEGO Movie” spin-off “LEGO Batman.” Chris McKay, who served as animation supervisor on “The LEGO Movie,” is now attached as director. Both Miller and Lord are also set to write for “The LEGO Movie” sequel which is set for a 2018 release. There are still confirmations as of yet if the two will also direct the sequel which is reported to be set four years after the events of the original.
Moreover, the spin-off movie will see the return of Will Arnett who voiced the Dark Knight in the original LEGO pic. “LEGO Batman” is one of the three LEGO movies which will launch on the upcoming consecutive years, with “LEGO Batman” set for a Feb. 10, 2017 release.
Meanwhile the “LEGO Ninjago,” based on the LEGO kit set and TV show of the same name, will headline right before 2017’s “LEGO Batman,” set for Sept. 23, 2016 release. The “Ninjago” movie will be set in a very much different universe from both the “LEGO Movie” and “LEGO Batman.” “Ninjago” will be directed by Charlie Bean from a script by Dan and Kevin Hageman who also wrote for the cartoon series “LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu” and also co-wrote the story for “The LEGO Movie.” Lin, Miller and Lord will join Roy Lee as producers for the pic.
