The Librarians” Season 1 Episode 5 “And the Apple of Discord” aired on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. on TNT. Flynn Carsen briefly returns to the library’s annex, and a conclave represented by the different groups of supernatural also takes place in this episode. Read on below for the recap.

The librarian trainees are looking into the latest cases of earthquakes. Apparently, someone has disturbed the dragons, which is why tremors are happening everywhere. As Jake (Christian Kane), Cassandra (Lindy Booth), Eve (Rebecca Romjin) and Jenkins (John Larroquette) look into references to try to figure out how to stop this, while Ezekiel (John Kim) waits for his pizza delivery, Flynn (Noah Wyle) unexpectedly returns to the library's annex.

Flynn knows there’s a brewing war between the east dragons and the west dragons, describing it as some sort of a gang war. The only way to stop this is to return the pearl the west has stolen from the east, so Flynn starts barking orders as if he never left. He also prepares for the arbitration.

But when a representative for the east dragon group arrives at the annex — looking like a human being by the way (that’s the magic of dragons!) — Ezekiel is the first person the dragon lawyer got to talk to. So by default, Ezekiel becomes the arbiter, making the rest of the librarian trainees’ task all the more challenging. See, with Ezekiel left in the annex to settle the arbitration with Jenkins, the rest of the team — Flynn, Eve, Cassandra and Jake — head to Rome to take the pearl back, which should have been an easy job for Ezekiel. Despite this though, the group manages to pull the heist. They retrieve the pearl at a museum in Rome, except that when they got hold of it, something affected the way they behaved.

The pearl actually contains a golden apple with magical powers that brings out the worst side of a person. Because he's the first one to touch the object, Jake becomes the first victim against its powers. He grows angry that the museum didn’t understand and appreciate art the way he does, and so he starts rearranging the displays. Security had to stop him.

Cassandra gets hold of the apple next and switches from her goody-two-shoes persona into a real bitch. Out of nowhere, Lamia (Lesley-Ann Brandt) appears in the museum, but Cassandra impales her. Seeing what’s happening, Jake helps Cassandra with her visions, until she is able to shake off the apple’s grip on her.

Eve and Flynn get hold of the apple next and start charting how they could take over the world. But Flynn grabs the apple last and teleports back into the annex while still holding it. This object is truly the apple of discord!

Meanwhile, as this was happening, the arbitration at the annex somehow turns into a conclave with about 10 supernatural representatives in attendance, including Dulaque (Matt Frewer).  They want some things changed in the way things are being managed in the library, and for a brief moment, the problems with the dragons took a back seat.

To his credit, Ezekiel manages the conclave pretty well though, showing that, despite his flaws, he’s got leadership potential and a very astute mind too. He settles the demands, including the ones from the original arbitration, figuring out that this whole east vs. west dragon wars was actually started by the east group themselves. The west dragons had nothing to do with stealing any pearls at all!

Ezekiel also manages to take the apple away from Flynn upon his return to the annex. The surprising thing is, Ezekiel did not fall into the apple’s powers because he’s already behaving his worst self! But this episode is his moment to shine and prove he's not exactly completely bad.

The episode also briefly touches into the background of Jenkins and Dulaque, with the former declaring that he knows Dulaque is actually behind today’s discord. Dulaque asks Jenkins to join his group, but Jenkins said he has already made his choice. He’s staying with the good guys.

Lastly, Eve and Flynn work some things out as well, as tension took place in the beginning of the episode. They both agree that Eve will stay on as the guardian of the librarian trainees, while Flynn continues his mission of finding the original library. Flynn remarks, however, that Eve has been doing a great job with the team in the way they work and interact with one another.

They kiss one last time before Flynn disappears again. Will he be back in succeeding episodes?
