“The Lottery” Season 1 Episode 3 “Greater Good” airs on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at 10:00 p.m. on Lifetime. WARNING: Spoilers ahead! Read only if you want to learn more about Movie News Guide’s (MNG) Episode 3 “Greater Good” spoilers and Episode 2 “Rules of the Game” recap.
Previously on “Pilot” (air date: July 20, 2014), Dr. Alison Lennon (Marley Shelton) successfully fertilized 100 embryos as part of her goal to help the human race survive amidst the infertility crisis. Her work was halted by the newly appointed Darius Hayes (Martin Donovan), so she didn’t have a choice but to leave.
In “Rules of the Game” (air date: July 29, 2014), she was brought into a secret location by several armed men. The previous episode ended with a surprising cliffhanger. Alison was in the middle of investigating the case of Brooke, one of the egg donors in the experiment. They were planning to get her access to the national lottery, which will be held soon.
Alison was interrogated by Hayes about the missing embryo. She was told that she was arrested for stealing her own creation. Hayes warned her that they might charge a case against her. She was tortured again when she refused to share the embryo’s location.
Elsewhere, Kyle (Michael Graziadei) and Elvis were still on the run. He removed a tracking chip that the lab put under Elvis’ skin. They crossed the country and met with Camilla, a woman who had a daughter. It was too late that Kyle found out that Elvis didn’t have any insulin shots. He forcibly got some of the meds by starting a small fire. The good thing was that he arrived on time despite being hunted by the authorities.
President Westwood (Yul Vazquez), on the other hand, went ballistic about his decreasing ratings. He also asked Vanessa (Athena Karkanis) to look for a possible solution to solve the problem. Vanessa told him that they should set Alison free. Both Westwood and Hayes agreed, and she came back to work. At the lab, she and James (David Alpay) found out that someone erased their database. The database was a crucial part of the fertilization stage because they needed to know if the donors were healthy or not.
Later, Vanessa arrived to give her scripted speech for the upcoming press conference. Alison refused until she was encouraged by James. Alison’s assistant was previously convinced by Vanessa to do it in exchange of being free from the case. In the end, Alison used the script and gave false hope to everyone.
