Napoleon Solo and Ilya Kuryakin will return to the big screen to save the world in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. 2. According to lead star Armie Hammer, a script is already being written by screenwriter Lionel Wigram.
The Return of the Man From U.N.C.L.E
Guy Ritchie’s Cold War action movie was not a box-office success despite an all-star cast. The movie, which featured Hammer and Henry Cavill as extremely stylish super spies grossed $109.8 million at the worldwide box office from a budget of around $75 million. That said, a sequel was not guaranteed.
However, Hammer has renewed hope that there is going to be a follow-up to the awesome adventures of Napoleon Solo and Ilya Kuryakin. In an interview with Slash Film, the 30-year-old revealed that the original movie’s screenwriter is already working on the sequel’s script.
“I called Lionel Wigram, the producer of the movie, and he and Guy produced it and wrote it all together,” he recounted. ” I was like, ‘Dude, what’s the deal? I get asked about this s*** all the time. Can you just write a sequel?'”
Surprisingly, Wingram said yes. “He was like, ‘You know what? Yeah, f*** it, I’ll do it. Sure, I’ll write a sequel,'” Hammer assured.
As the actor pointed out, this is not the first time that he was asked about the spy movie. Rumors of a sequel began swirling last year when the actor reunited with co-star Hugh Grant for an Instagram photo. Hammer wrote the caption: “The people from Uncle #justgotthenewmission.”
To recall, Grant played the role of Alexander Waverly, a British secret agent.
If a script is really in development, then fans will likely hear more information about The Man From U.N.C.L.E. 2 in the next few months.
Will The Man From U.N.C.L.E. 2 Get Made?
The charm of the movie stems from the unlikely team-up between American spy Napoleon Solo and Russian Spy Ilya Kuryakin. While the two started off as rivals, they eventually learned to respect each other. The ending of the movie left the story open for a new adventure and an even greater friendship. There is also the possibility of romance between Illya and Alicia Vikander’s Gabby.
Right now, the sequel is far from official. Aside from Hammer and Wigram, none of the original actors and crew have confirmed their involvement. Scheduling production will likely be difficult since the main cast is all signed up to big movie franchises. Cavill, for example, is expected to return as Clark Kent/Superman in Justice League. Meanwhile, Vikander is the new Lara Croft in the rebooted Tomb Raider.
As for Hammer, the actor seems to have an exciting new role in the horizon.
Armie Hammer as Green Lantern?
Rumor has it that Hammer has been cast as Hal Jordan a.k.a the Green Lantern in the upcoming Justice League. Over the past few weeks, he has been dropping hints about a possible role in the DC Extended Universe.

Even his The Man From UNCLE co-star has been teasing about the emergence of the Green Lantern in the DCEU. Here are some of Cavill’s Instagram post about the character that Hammer “liked” and which fans now believe are signs that he has already been cast as Hal Jordan.

However, in a recent interview, the actor has finally refuted reports that he has been cast as a comic book superhero. While doing press rounds for his new movie titled Free Fire, the actor revealed to Collider that he has nothing to confirm nor deny because the only news about his involvement in the superhero franchise comes from social media. He does, however, enjoy trolling fans.
“It was fun for a while and now I’m convinced that everyone’s gonna turn on me so I’m like ‘Oh shit, slowly backing away,” he joked. For now here is a fan-made poster of Hammer as the Green Lantern.
