“The Strain” Season 1 Premiere Episode 1 “Night Zero” airs on Sunday, July 13, 2014, at 10:00 p.m. on FX. The series is made possible through the most awaited TV collaboration of horror director Guillermo del Toro (“Pan’s Labyrinth”), author Chuck Hogan and “Bates Motel” showrunner Carlton Ruse. Well, who wouldn’t want that? Read on to learn more about FX’s “The Strain,” including spoilers for the upcoming Season 1 Premiere.
The upcoming vampire horror series is based on the first novel of “The Strain” (2006) trilogy written by Guillermo and Logan. It is executively produced by Del Toro, Logan, Cuse and Gary Ungar through FX Productions and 20th Television.
Del Toro told Deadline that he is thankful that FX gave a 13-episode order for the series. Del Toro shared that he and Logan were planning on using the script for Television, but the project did not push through. With the help of Richard Abate of “3 Arts,” they turned it into a book series that included “The Strain” (2006), “The Fall” (2010) and “The Night Eternal” (2011).
When the first book was published, several networks were interested in adapting the novel into television series. Del Toro refused to accept the offers because he wanted to finish the entire trilogy first.
“FX made the most sense, based on the level of commitment, passion and understanding of the concept of the book. They got behind the idea of making this a close-ended series; we wanted to follow the books closely and so it couldn’t be open-ended, but rather three to five seasons max,” said del Toro in the Deadline article.
