“The Strain” Season 1 Premiere Episode 1 “Night Zero” was directed by Guillermo del Toro and written by del Toro and Chuck Hogan. The episode started off with a mysterious plane from Berlin which had landed at the John F. Kennedy Airport on the eighth of February at exactly 20:00. An experienced airport officer had thought off calling the CDC for help.
At 20:35 in New York, Ephraim “Eph” Goodweather (Corey Stoll) was still stuck during the court trial of his divorce with his wife, Kelly (Natalie Brown). It seemed that his love for his work had taken a toll on Eph’s relationships, including with his wife and son, Zach (Ben Hyland). On the other hand, Professor Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley) used his unique skills in threatening the guys who wanted to rob his pawnshop. Abraham was later seen feeding an enlarged living heart with his own blood.
At 21:45 until 22:05 in JFK, Eph and his co-worker, Nora (Mía Maestro), went aboard the plane to probe further. As they scope the area, they met the four only living survivors from the ordeal and quarantined them. Their investigations also led to the discovery of a wooden coffin with soil inside and a bunch of crazy carvings on it. Later, an official heard an addicting humming sound when The Master (Robert Maillet) immediately attacked and sucked all his blood via parasitic worm.
At 23:30 in JFK, Abraham went to the airport after he had seen the news. He failed to convince Eph that they must kill and break the bones of the dead passengers. His statement was considered as scandalous that’s why he was imprisoned. They didn’t know that Abraham might have the key to save all of them. Meanwhile, a medical experiment had been bitten by the parasitic worm and got killed by a group of reanimated victims.
German Thomas Eichorst (Richard Sammel) arrived in Harlem to meet up with his partner, Gus (Miguel Gomez). Eichorst went there after visiting millionaire Eldritch Palmer (Jonathan Hyde) in his glamorous penthouse. In Harlem, Thomas was ordered to deliver the coffin by the river before daylight. He got no other choice but to obey the orders. Gus was later saved by Jim (Sean Astin), Eph’s assistant and their secret ally, from the airport lockdown.
