Now that they have finally dealt with Kai, it’s time to switch the focus to Bonnie. Will she ever get out of her prison? In “The Vampire Diaries” Season 6 Episode 13 “Staying Strong,” we got the answer to that. Read below for the full recap.
It’s Bonnie’s birthday yet she’s still stuck in 1994. In Mystic Falls, her friends are planning to celebrate her birthday, but Jeremy didn’t want to be a part of it until Kai showed up — somewhat changed. Since he merged with Luke, a part of Luke is in him, specifically the ability to empathize. Imagine our surprise when Kai told Elena and Damon that he feels remorse for all his bad actions and wants to make up for it by saving Bonnie.
Kai had a plan to save Bonnie — transport Elena and Damon there, but Bonnie can’t see them and they are also not allowed to touch anything. What they can do was to point Bonnie to the direction of Nova Scotia to get to Silas’ tomb where she can siphon enough power to get herself out of prison. Suddenly, Jeremy was on board and wanted to help, which means that Kai had to transport three people to 1994.
Meanwhile, Bonnie was ready to give up and end her life; and when Damon, Elena and Jeremy got there, they saw Bonnie getting the bottle of Bourbon and planning to finish the whole bottle. That’s when Damon told them that they had a talk that when they are ready to end it there, they are going to have to finish that bottle first before they kill themselves. Unfortunately, before they could stop Bonnie they all got transported back to modern-day Mystic Falls because Kai’s magic can’t hold it anymore and can only transport one person back, so Jeremy volunteered himself to be the one to do that.
Liv, on the other hand, was grieving for the loss of his brother and was determined to kill Kai. Tyler tried to stop her because killing Kai means killing all of them because he is now their coven leader. However, Liv was irrational and cast a spell on Tyler to make him fall asleep and set off to find Kai. When she found him in the Salvatore’s performing magic to get Jeremy in 1994 and help Bonnie get out of prison, she stabbed him and that transported Jeremy back.
The good thing was Kai managed to bounce back and transport Jeremy back again in 1994 just when Bonnie was inside the garage and in the car ready to end her life until she heard her grams’ words to “stay strong.” It was almost too late, but luckily Jeremy managed to open the garage door and let Bonnie see the map of Nova Scotia. That’s when it hit her that she should go there, so she hurriedly got in the car and drove to Nova Scotia. Jeremy came back to present-day Mystic Falls and announced that he’s applying to art school while Tyler left Liv because of what she did to him.
Meanwhile, Caroline was on the search for Miss Cuddles that she hid in the woods when she was still a child. She was determined to look for it with Stefan, and they bonded in the woods until they found Miss Cuddles.
Enzo, on the other hand, was using Matt to get to Sarah until Matt came back to Enzo with the news that Sarah is a good person and it was a light-bulb moment for Enzo to cook up a new plan, that is, to turn Sarah into a bad girl and make her beg for him to become a vampire.
