Would you drink sewage water? You may find the idea revolting even if you know that the water has been treated and all clean. The people over at BuzzFeed did a taste test and let some of their staff drink sewage water for the first time. Watch the video below and find out how sewage water tastes like.
The staff were given water samples: (A) bottled water, (B) tap water and (C) purified sewage water. They were then asked which sample they think was the sewage water. All of them said it was sample B and were surprised when they were told that it was sample C. “I’d rather drink sewage water than LA tap water,” a surprised staff said. The video also features the Orange County Groundwater Replenishment System (GWRS) facility, the world’s largest water purification project, which has been operating since 2008.
According to Sustainable Solutions for a Thirsty Planet, all water on Earth is recycled, and sewage water treatment is not a new technology. In fact, Singapore has been doing this. According to USA Today, almost five million residents have accepted it. Water treatment process has improved through the years. As water scarcity issues grow, more and more countries are augmenting their fresh water supply by adding treated water to the drinking water supply.
