Those following developments regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe must have heard about how Idris Elba “hated” shooting his parts for “Thor 2.” Well, it looks like he will have to get over those difficulties one way or another because there has been considerable buzz about the actor playing an important part as Heimdall in “Thor 3: Ragnarok.”
Cinema blend reported how Elba seems to be desperately looking for a way to get kicked out of the MCU fast. fr starters, he once revealed (back when it was a secret, of course) that his character from “Thor 2” will be a part of “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” Now, we all know that if there’s one thing director Joss Whedon hates, it’s spoilers (Elba sure got the ire of Whedon for that one). And while it was also implied that Elba did went back to finish shooting his part for “Thor 2,” he only did so out of contractual obligation, while saying filming was “torture.”
On the other hand, Movie Pilot speculates that the difficulties Elba had with regards to “Thor 2” was because of a demanding schedule; it should be noted that Elba was in South Africa shooting the biopic “Mandela: A Long Walk To Freedom” before the return to the set of “Thor 2.”
They also confirmed that Elba has since clarified his comments, saying that the issue has more to do with the transition of roles — abruptly shifting from his personal hero (Mandela) to a golden-clad Asgardian may have been a jarring experience for Elba.
One reason why they say Elba has to come back for “Thor 3: Ragnarok” is the significance of Thor’s visions as seen in “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” In it, we see Thor on a sort of spirit walk that gave him visions of his home, Asgard, with the people there blaming the thunder god for damning them; the multitudes including… you guessed it — Idris Elba as Heimdall himself.
It has been announced by no less than the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia that “Thor 3: Ragnarok” will begin production sometime in 2016.
